Can I weld a bung to the oil pan?

Might have a hard time finding an aluminum bung
that's ready-made and going to stay in shape
through welding. I'd go with about a 3/8" wafer
cut from 1" round stock, drill a 3/4" pan work hole,
bung-to-be on the outside of the pan, weld from
the inside and put a bead around the outside too,
then drill & pipe-tap. Probably a half-hour job as
a welding shop carry-in, esp. if you do the hand-
tool stuff yourself.
