hey guys new to the forums and came here wanting to ask a quick question. so over the weekend i picked up a slightly built 5.3l engine out of a 2002 Tahoe its got a comp cam xfi rpm hi lift cam ( 54-424-11 to be exact ), ported and polished heads, larger valves, comp valve springs and push rods. well after talking to the previous owner he informed me that it has a ls1 cam in it and not a 5.3 cam. Ive been searching around but cant seem to get a clear answer. i believe the 5.3 cams have the 3 bolt while the ls1 cams have the single, but i was wondering can the ls1 style cam work properly in this motor without a timing set and timing cover with crank position sensor from a ls1?
