LS6 Super Stroker article in Super Chevy This may be just a miss-print I'm not sure but in this month's new Super Chevy they have an article on Gen III Performance's 427 LS6 stroker 427 and the stack style intake. Looks like they're using AFR's new heads too. The way this engine looks is simply awesome but when you look at the rear-wheel dyno graph of the engine its torque and horsepower top out at around 325. A stock LS1 with minor boltons can make that much power. What do ya think? Also the dyno graph shows the torque and horsepower crossing at 4900? |
I'm hoping you read the dyno graph wrong. HP and TQ HAS to cross at 5252 and 325 RWHP is really good for a bone stock LS1. |
I think he's saying the article showed a graph for the 427 and it showed 325. Its probably the wrong graph. Magazines to that pretty often. |
"I think he's saying the article showed a graph for the 427 and it showed 325." Right...and I said that I hope he read it wrong (for the sake of the credibility of the magazine.) I was poking fun at how often magazines tend to screw up the most basic of information. :) |
Right....I thought you meant that you hope that he read the axis (plural) wrong and perhaps the lines did not cross as 5250 like they would given a graph with the same scale on each side....oh god....we are WAY off track. Nevermind. Colonel....FINISH YOUR CAR! It's been like two years since we were talking about it. |
Speaking of off track...call MTI and tell them to please hurry the hell up with my car. We wanna see some NA 8s and it just ain't happening with the car in TX and me in AL. :bang: |
No I didn't read it wrong, I just think the magazine screwed up royally...I know they have to cross at 5252 but according to the graph they cross at 4900 or so and for a LS6 with Afr heads and a comp cams 224 intake/280 exhaust w/ .534 lift on the intake and .537 on exhaust, thats also bored over to 427 those a pretty pathetic numbers. Thats why I said I hope its just a misprint. But the graph is labeled Gen III chassis dyno and shows the test being on a 427 LS6, wish I had a scanner and I'd show the dyno graph. |
This is the best picture that I could get (shitty camera phone) but if you look closely you can read the bottom rpm scale and the left scale goes from 200 to 340 in intervals of 20. Basically what I'm gettin at here, is how much horsepower/torque can you really expect. My dad and I are lookin at putting a Gen III engine in his '55, but he doesn't really care for the intake on those engines. He really likes this, but its no where near how much torque/horsepower he wants. Thanks. |
Super strokers can produce 500rwhp and 500rwtq in camaros. My dad has a stock LS1 in his '55 project and alreday likes it, just after starting it up once. |
WHY does HP and TQ have to cross at 5252? Whats the deal with 5252 rpm? Thank ya. |
Speaking of off track...call MTI and tell them to please hurry the hell up with my car. We wanna see some NA 8s and it just ain't happening with the car in TX and me in AL. Also torque and horsepower have to cross at 5252 because of math. torque X rpm / 5252 = horsepower Google it up if you really want to read all about how horsepower is derived from torque and what not. Also if the lines cross at something other than 5252, the scale is just off on each side. You'll notice different numbers designating the lines on the left for horsepower and the right for torque. |
Originally Posted by Quickin WHY does HP and TQ have to cross at 5252? Whats the deal with 5252 rpm? Thank ya. HP = rpm x T(torque) 5252(constant) Rearrange the formula to solve for a given HP or TQ and you'll see that at 5252 RPM they MUST match fact of the equation. |
...And that's why I shake my head everytime someone starts the timeless "HP v/s TQ" debate. :jest: I mean, what weighs more? 2000 lbs of cotton or a ton of lead? ;) |
i have the real scoop on this story! SCOTT over @ GEN 3 told me the motor that was used first made around 560hp on an engine dyno (dont quote me i may be wrong?) after a photo shoot in vegas and after the owner drove it he felt to motor was to wild for that little 2400 pound car...so they just swapped in a crate ls1 and he was happy! those 427 that he builds are awsome and his real magic is in the tuning! as he was telling me the story he knew people would wonder why is 20K 427 only made 325hp!!!!!lol DAMN mags..... GEN3 is an awsome shop and SCOTT is the MAN! |
And yet again a magazine proves why people need LS1Tech.com. ;) |
i just emailed SCOTT so he could better explain what happend? just think how many people are thinking 427=325hp what a piece of shit! id be pist if i was scott! o-well < what are you gonna do? |

I mean, what weighs more? 2000 lbs of cotton or a ton of lead? ;) Just wait til the ricers get a hold of that mag. " Hey dude, those chevy guys with their 427 only make 325 horsepower, my civic can make that with a 50 shot of naawwwwssss." :eyes: |
