Default 35k mile cam swap whats really needed

I have a 01 ss m6 with just a hair over 35k miles on it, and I will be doing a cam swap within the next month or two. Im on here regularly, but rarely post because I usually am always able to find an answer until now. Quick rundown of the car, full weight street car, suspension, basic bolt ons, mwc 9" on order with 456 gear with a 28 in tall tire. So I decided to go with a cam setup, and here's my question. With such low mileage is it actually necessary to replace the timing chain and oil pump? I have already ordered the summit truunion kit, and plan n going with a tick performance polluter set up, or custom route with EPS. I have a buddy with a 00 ss that has a trex cam swap and he did just the cam, valve springs, and pushrods and has 80k on it and has been fine for 2 years of beating the heck out of it. I just don't want to replace anything that really isn't necessary. Btw I only put about 6k miles a year on this car, and plan on doing a head/cam setup a couple years from now. Any honest real world suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

I'd say you'd be fine with using the current oil pump for sure, timing chain is up to you. Part of me would say to just reuse it, because I cant think of any negative effects, and getting the lower crank gear off is a pain, mainly getting the oil pump feed off. If it were my personal car, i'd reuse both.

I think a lot depends on maintenance of the car. The reason people buy supporting mods is for peace of mind in case the engine cant handle the new cam. Im sure people doing cam swaps on 2013 camaros and vettes with less miles, are also use supporting mods.

I would go with a different timing set as the LS1's are known for being weak. As for the oil pump I just reused mine cause the car only had 25k on it at the time. Also I think it was the 01-02's that came with a factory ls6 pump (someone please correct me if I am wrong).

Definitely do the timing chain, and like others said get the LS2 one for under 50 bux. It's cheap peace of mind.

At a minimum cam, springs, pushrods, gaskets and balancer bolt. Oil pump I think would be fine but for what it costs I would go ahead and do the LS2 chain.

When you see the difference between the LS1 TC set and the LS2 TC set, you'll know it was $50 well spent.

Replacing the oil pump and timing chain arent mandatory but as tohers said it gives peace of mind. An ls2 chain is around 40 bucks and is much stronger than the ls1 and a melling or ported ls6 pump new can be had around 120 with shopping around. Cheap insurance to provide good oiling to a high demanding valvetrain

+1 for $40 LS2 chain. I wouldn't worry about the oil pump. I'm about to do something very similar but not going that aggressive with the cam.

I am going to go against the grain and say replace the oil pump while you are there, its just a little more work, but worth it. Melling high volume etc.... You are going to spin your motor higher with most aftermarket cams, stock pump volume falls off quite a bit in the upper rpms. In any event a new pump is around 130 bucks and is good insurance.
