Oil - what'r you using?
The Best V8 Stories One Small Block at Time
I don't use the oil because of some commercial ploy but because it works for my application, that and I can get this junk for cheep at $3 a bottle through a friend of mine over at the Pep Boys in town.
Just my .02
My reason for using Castrol is simple: it made the top end quieter than any other I've used.
It was loudest with Mobile 5w-30.
VR1 10w-30 Synthetic 10 bucks a quart on amazon.
My car is stock except for a lid. I do hear tapping noises coming from my motor, might be serious might not. Which should I go for? And is the VR1 labeled as a "racing oil" because of the additives put in it? There is a little disclaimer that says it shouldnt be run on the street. Decisions....
Castrol 06244 EDGE 0W-30 SPT Synthetic Motor Oil
I have heard others mention the German stuff as well so I guess its pretty popular. Does it have the same additives as VR1 etc.? Do I need them in my stock car? Whatever gives m the best protection is what i want.
Yes, the Castrol Edge with Syntec Technology 0w30 is "German Castrol". From what I understand is that European standards for "synthetic" oils are higher than US standards and it is required to be from a better base stock.
Like I said, it is $30-35 for an oil change special with a premium filter when it's on sale and it makes my top end quieter. But if I can't find it when I need it I won't hesitate to grab Pennzoil Platinum, Valvoline SynPower, or some other top brand synthetic.
If you are changing it in under 10,000 miles it doesn't matter much. If you are changing it at 3k miles you are pissing away money and should just get regular oil.
