Valve train noise and terrible idle after cam swap 5.3l
had a bad lifter so I pulled heads to replace them in my 5.3l. Found #1 intake had deflated and was wearing cam quite badly.
So I swapped cam with Texas Speed 220/220 .581/.581
Lifters with ls7 lifters
springs with single beehive .625"
rods with comp cams 7.4"
Heads needed to be taken down .005, so I checked the length on all the rods and 7.4 still gave me about .075-.080 preload and about 1 and 3/4 turn from zero lash to 22ft lbs. I was happy there.
bolted it all back together and ran it today. Idle is really bad for this mild of a cam. Valve train is hella noisy even after letting lifters fill up and pass side sounds like crap.
Pulled valve covers and spun motor. Everything cycled cleanly, no binding or rough spots.
Pulled rockers, rechecked preload and lash to torque point. Still good. All lifters deflated when under load, so all lifters are filling.
What did I miss?
