ls1 timing chain slack *video*
Honestly don't know so I thought I would post my findings here.
Took my front cover off to weld a bung in for a turbo drain and was checking out the t chain and it seems a little loose. Not sure if this is normal or not I have only dealt with gm 4.6 northstar tchains and they have tensioners to keep them tight.
Here's the video lmk what you guys think whether this chain is toast or if that is normal slack.

Yeah I showed someone else the video yesterday and he said they are all like that when he has messed with them.
If I really want to get crazy I can stilk just replace it with a new timing chain for an ls2 for about 30 40 bucks. It has been on there for about 50k miles with a .605 238/240 cam and dual patriot springs. Seems to be holding up pretty well imo if that slack is what they call "normal"

What many of us do here is to buy an LS2 damper & mod the holes to align w/ an LS1/LS6 block. If your block is not already drilled, just drill & tap on bolt center matching the LS2 damper. Also, definitely upgrade to the LS2 chain while you're in there. There is not a damper made (by GM anyway) for the LS1. That's the reason for the LS2 damper.

I'm using a Rollmaster double roller timing set in my LS1 and it doesn't have nearly the amount of slack as a stock chain. I know it's normal for the slack in these chains, but I just wasn't comfortable with it, hence the aftermarket chain I am running.
