Mill heads .010" or just run cometic .045"?
I race in a power/weight limited class so I can't get crazy with the heads or a bigger cam. That said, torque is unlimited so a slight bump in compression can boost torque w/o adding much power. I was going to have the heads milled .010, but instead of spending the money, why not just run .045" Cometic head gaskets?
My research shows the MLS '02-'04 head gaskets I have are .060" compressed so running the .045" cometics would be equivalent to milling around 15 thousands.
Thoughts?
EDIT - It seems they're around $180 a pair which is close to the same cost as getting the heads milled.

I'll have to pull timing to flat line the new engine at around 350-355 rwhp so not sure I can take advantage of that. I'm putting my LS6 heads on a new LS1 crate engine so this is one of those "might as well while I'm in there" things.

Peak HP and Peak TQ are usually a little different in timing. You could look into a truck style intake. Should eat a little top end and give more tq.
Are you able to change the cam? You may be able to run a cam that has just tq in mind. A 350 limit should make it easier to get a great tq curve.
You could also mill and do the .045" gasket. So long as it stays withing the reason of the fuel you're using.

I got a used '01 LS6 cam to go in it. I lost two lifters in my 123k original LS6. The 2001 heads have longer valve stems to account for the '01 cam's smaller base circle so I didn't want to mess with it.
Probably just going to mill the heads .010" and use the OEM gaskets I already have and call it a day. Need to have the heads checked over due to the mileage anyway.
I want to keep the car able to run on 93 octane as the price jump to 100 is substantial.
