Default Lifters not moving during cam install

I'm removing my stock cam and trying to insert metal rods to support the lifters when the cam is pulled. The driver side rod slides in no problem, but no matter how much i rotate the cam the passenger side rod wont go in. I can see the pushrods moving when the cam is rotated, but the hole is somehow still blocked. Any ideas?

Can you get it past the first lifter at all? Also, what is the rod diameter you are using?

I feel like it went in past the first cylinder(pass side) but it feels forced, where the driver side felt more smooth.

if it felt forced, it probably slid past the lifter rather than went underneath it. That happened to to my friends CTS-V also on the passenger side when I was helping him with him cam install, back out the rod and start again. You could maybe try a small enough magnet pick up tool to fit down the pushrod shaft to hold the lifter up while getting the rod in place to hold up the lifter and just keep doing that one by one as you work your way back.

I guess your using 1\4" cold roll?
The right side needs to be ground flat on one side all the way
down flat side towards lifters a .060 - .080 flat should do it.

So i tried the pen megnet; no help. I'm pretty sure the lifter is all the way up though. I might try that idea and grind it flat; when I looked down the hole it did look somewhat odd shaped. I'll give it a try tomorrow after I pick up 2 more rods, I cut the ones I'm using down too much I think.
