LQ9 (texas speed) engine question - with high res photos
I had a goof up with some pushrods that were too long which resulted in 1 bent pushrod (stock), 3 broken crane dual valve springs, and 1 lifter.
The block is a built LQ9 with boost.
My question is this, while inspecting everything I found no signs of damage to anything outside of what I said above. The cam looks great and nothing is raising any red flags.
However, I did notice that where the oil splashes up from the cam shaft area it almost looks like the block was chipped. You can see in the photos how it is. I can't remember if it was like that when I first got the motor or not (from texas speed). The ones that look 'broken' are all on front and rear. The middle holes are all smaller. It looks like it's meant to be like that, but the jagged edges make me question it.
Is it supposed to look like this? Also, I inspected inside the oil pan with a scope camera and found nothing. I also inspected the cam with the camera and found no signs of chunks or anything grinding.
Check it out...

Sounds like you're talking about the drainback holes. Some folks clean 'em up before a build, some don't, doesn't look like yours is restricting oil drain back, find something else to worry about, IMHO.

Thanks guys I really appreciate it! I looked online to find similar views of an LS to compare but all the images I found were difficult to see the drain holes.
Ok, onward with the build!
