i have a chance to get a set of YT 1.7's for free.
just wondering if i would need to change anything to install them on my stock motor ls1.

I have H/C/I and Yella Terra rockers, it just matters what Gen rockers you have. Where is the 1.7 stamped on the rocker itself? did he include the rocker stand shims? i have been running mine for over 3 years, and have had no problems yet, i also have a high lift cam.
Just an FYI, i am not nice to my motor. They are very good rocker arms, quieted down my valvetrain quite a bit. You should not need to change anything, but really no need to switch to full roller rockers with stock cam, you might see 1-2hp at redline, but not much more. The stock rockers are pretty good already.

They are not a power adder!
If anything, you may lose power, Heavier on the nose on the inlet valve .....Better to stick with OEM rockers with Truunion upgrade

LOL...30hp, someone lied to you buddy. They are meant more to solve the problem when running such high lift or extreme ramp rate cams that the stock rockers cant handle it.
If i could have kept my stock rockers, i would have, but i got my Yella Terras on sale close to the price of the Trunnion upgrade, so i went with new rockers.

The HP figures you will see guys talk about are going to be mostly in reference to gen 1 and gen 2 motors where there was a ball fulcrum and aftermarket roller rockers improved true ratio and reduced a lot of friction. The LS1 has a MUCH better factory rocker to start o the potential gains are FAR FAR less.
The potential valve control issues from the heavier parts is very real though and going to make this not worthwhile, particularly if staying the same ratio.

You will gain zero hp with the rockers. You may need to shim them, which then will require different pushrods. You will likely need new valve springs, at a minimum LS6 valve springs since yours are tired if they haven't been changed.
I would not install these, even for free in you situation. To correctly set them up you will have to measure/add several other components.

there's mixed reviews. the stock ls1 valvesprings are pretty weak and can't properly control the heavier rocker properly. I've read where guys took the time to change their springs, installed 1.8 rockers and gained 18 rwhp. seems like the guys that don't change their springs see maybe 8rwhp with 1.8's, and maybe none with 1.7's. if you wanted to take the time to put in some better springs, I would do it. y\t's looks pretty easy to install. then once it's all set up it would be easy to throw a cam in if you ever want to.
