Question Help me pick the right heads for the "complete" Package

I hear people say all the time you need the proper heads with the proper cam to make the "complete" Package.

This is my daily driver, with several track runs per year.

My Mods are or will be:228R(comp 3724R grind 588/112+2), FLPS, Asp, Ported TB, Patriot gold springs W/tit rets, Raptor shiftlight, NGK 55IXs, BMR STB, Harland Rockers, !Baffles+sealed airbox, Factory Hurst w/LSS, Ws6 cat-back+Magnaflow Muffler,Direct-flo lid, Holley Pwrshot, RWTD Predator, !CAGS, 160 Deg Therm, BMR SFC's,T/A Girdle, Nitto 555 Extremes.

Now I may not do heads for a while... But Now would be a good time to do them seeing I have the springs and all still new. What heads would "complete" this package with my mods on a 01??

Thanks for you responses in advance.

the best advice is to contact one of our sponsers about what they would
recommend. you will get a response from someone that gets paid by their
results as apposed to us only building our own cars. trust me, you will get
better results!
point in case. i would never use a 228 cam for a daily driver. but thats me!!

I did not see any head info, other than yes, I guess I should have gotten heads, then asked what cam....
But From everything I have read this is a good cam, so I was wondering what the best head type would be matched to it.... 5.3, 5.7 (1.5, 2,) etc.

If I did read part of it right, it said higher compression for higher duration cams, but I still don't know if a 228 is considerd higher...... I still see many people calling it a baby cam now a days...

I do not want to be over cammed, and have unuseable bottom end or top end power.

I was going with a 224, but I see "SO" many say they wish they had went bigger.... But as you can see I only went up to the next size, I have no desire to get into the How big of a cam I can slap into it war....

Also the 226/226 was not out when I started my parts pile, or I would have more than likely went with that.

Plus, I know many of the sponsors do read and comment in here so I was hoping they may answer as well, and it always helps to know who to do bussiness with on, who helps with advice and customer support... if you know what I mean.

That size cam is fine for a daily driver, compared to what most of us have now and days, as long as its properly tuned. I would give TSP a call. Maybe try doing a search with TSP, i know they had a thread going a while back about new heads and cams they are working on. They did my setup and I am very happy with it. Maybe a good set of 5.3 heads would work well with that cam, but i am certainly no expert.

Check out our sponsors. Go with proven packages.

I'm very happy with my MTI Stage 2E Heads and X1 cam. Car runs 10's and I drive it back and forth to work everyday A/C blasting. Gotta love it!

i will be testing the VHP heads here shortly. they will have 2.02/1.60 valves. this test will be a head only swap. no cam, intake, etc. using stock cam.

I'd go with the Patriot 5.3's or LS6 style heads to compliment your mods very well.

IMO, cam selection should base on what heads you will be running.

In my case, I left the cam decision to MTI, and I haven't been disappointed.

The X1 is a 230/227 (.591/.571) 112. So if you already have the cam, it may not be a bad match for the MTI S2E heads. I’d give the guys at MTI a call to see what they think.

Yea, I know I did it a little backwards, I was going to run stock heads, but then decided to look into some aftermarket heads after all. And don't want to just throw something on....

I may get MTI a call Thanks,

I suggest calling TEA as they have excellent heads. Talk with Brian or Brent about cam selection. FMS cams work well with TEA heads and Allan can give you some excellent insights as well.

Cartek also has several proven packages!! My car has gone 10.69 with their X-package. And it is very street friendly. I've drivin this car from NJ to Bowling Green KY. It makes 480+ HP to the rear wheels through a Moser 9" rear.

Dave and Julio spent thousands of hours doing R&D on their heads & cam packages. I say give them a call and ask for dave. 908-417-4496

I could not be more happier with the set-up I have in my car.

I may get MTI a call Thanks,

I also have a daily driver and I decided to go with the Lunati 224/224/560/560 - 112 cam and Patriot 5.7 Stage 2 heads. People on here like big cams, but for me this one is big enough. It has a rough idle and I have given up some bottom end power! I don't have the car tuned yet, so I am sure that will help some. This is as big as I want to go with a daily driver and still be able to run my AC and accessories. If you have a 6-spd then you can probably go a little bigger, but you are on the edge of streetability.

I decided to go with the PP 5.7 stg. 2 heads mainly because of value. $1,050. shipped and no core chrg. From your original post be careful if you want to retain good sreet manors. What one one person calls streetable is radical to another!
