Default California Cam

Several people have recomended I go w/ a new cam as my first real mod. I've got the basic bolt on's, and was looking at FI very seriously for awhile, but money wise, maybe a cam would be better. I was excited at first, but after a quick trip to SLP online, that changed. Is there anything out there that C.A.R.B. the great will let into this magical realm we call California? Thanks as always guys.

To be completely safe go with nothing over 220/220 on a 112 or better yet a 114 LSA. Use the XE high lift lobes from Comp. I use this lobe on the exhaust and use a slightly more aggressive XE-R lobe on the intake side. It makes great power and idles great. Without tuning and through a stock rear with 3.42's I made 396 RWHP and 378 RWTQ. I tuned it after the 12 bolt and 4.11 and gained 12 RWTQ and 10 RWHP. Had I kept the stock rear I would have hit 406 RWHP and 389 RWTQ taking into account the gains I got from the tune. Big cams are not always what they are cracked up to be. Few guys make this kind of power through full exhaust and stock heads.

Good luck!

A TR224 on a 114 is known to be CA smog friendly with tuning. I think this now qualifies as a well known fact.

Do any of our sponsers sell these cams? TR224? I don't know ANYTHING about them. These numbers all look the same to me. I tried doing a google search for it, but all I got were millions of forum posts, all containing people who know what they're talking about, talking to people who understand what they're saying. I'd love to put down 400hp! Oh, and BTW, as a side note..... I got a chance to ride in my friends Mach 1..... too funny.
