Default Metal flakes in oil pan, low oil pressure. Input needed.

Ok guy so a couple months ago I installed a forged 370 from a local engine builder. Ran the truck for about a week and it started loosing oil pressure. Changed oil and found cooper metal flakes in the oil pan. Cleaned pick up tube screen and put everything back together added thicker oil. Still no oil pressure, so parked the truck. Today I took the engine out. Tore it apart but could find nothing wrong. I have it tore down to the short block and can't see anything wrong except the oil pump is a little tight to turn. Any ideas would be greatful. Truck is turbo'd can't see anything wrong with the turbo.

Whats wrong! Is it possible the local engine builder is not LS savvy, bearings now trash?

I doubt it. He's pushed a couple of guys into the 10s in 4600lb trucks. Careless? Possible. I will tear down further in the AM.

You say he's pushed a couple of guys into the 10s....You didn't say they were LS powered & he had built them the motors

Yes LS motors. And he's a one man operation, I'm pretty sure he built the engines.

Check the thrust of the crank first

How much should the thrust be. It shouldn't move much correct?

+2 on the thrust. That happens even to the best builders sometimes.

Thrust is nice and tight. I can't see any issues with the short block. It spins good no visible damage. All bearings seem to be in tact. Would hate to rear down short block and nothing is wrong.

Was the o-ring pinched in the oil pump? If so, that would show up as low oil pressure. And the flakes would be bearings starved for oil.

You sure all the oil gallery plugs are in place and didn't move? Cam bearing walk? Relief valve in oil pump stuck open?

That was my first guess but after pulling the cam, bearings look fine slight scratches but nothing serious. Cam looks good.

Mains are toast. I'm goin to blame it on the oil pump. Seems like it wants to lock up.
