you need to cut the ls1 block to get the ls6 valley cover to fit. Check out ls1howto. They have a small walkthrough with pictures that come in handy. Cutting the block is easy if you have a dremel, the troublesome part is covering EVERYTHING as much as possible to avoid particles to fly inside the engine.
If you do decide to switch to the ls6 valley, id also recommend to switch to 99+ knock sensors. Youll need 2 new sensors and a new harness. It takes an extra 5 minutes to do once you have the valley cover out.
Youll also have the option of grinding down the ls6 intake fins in the bottom in order to reuse the stock ls1 coolant lines. A lot of people do this, but chances are youll have to bend the lines a little to clear the new ls6 valley cover notches. OR, you can buy 2 rear coolant line plugs and a ls6 coolant line to avoid the extra work. I bought the ls6 lines because i damaged my stock coolant lines while trying to bend them.

The ls6 intake is definitely worth it. The ls6 valley cover will let you remove all the pcv pipes or hoses running over the engine, so itll have a cleaner look and keep the car a bit healthier as it is more efficient than the ls1 pcv system. It doesnt improve performance though.

This is the best bang for the buck for the Throttle Body. I have one with my Ls6 intake and boy it really wakes up the car!!

Its easy to knock all the plastic ribs off the bottom of the intake with a hammer and chisel. Id get new gaskets and foam pads no matter the condition, theyre 15 years old and you dont want to have to take the intake off again if it develops a vacuum leak because you wanted to save $20 and 30 seconds of work the first time.
The Potz (ebay) throttle body is a good piece, and its only like $60 after you send in your core.
