This is my setup. Car made 440/387 today in 94* humid weather. I've had several people say it has head work, but the runners look stock to me, still have the factory casting look. Is this a higher than normal number for the setup? It was not made just to see a number so no toying with the tune or anything like that. Timing was at 28*. AFR was right at 12.

Either head work or a generous dyno IMO

Jackson98Z28 08-21-2014 05:53 AM

It's a Dynojet. That's all I know abt it. Seems to be on par with other cars

440 rwhp for a cammed only LS1 is high. Mine made 410 rwhp with mods in sig, but yet it runs with 450-500 rwhp cars....that's how little the dyno matters ;)

I guess I should've worded that better. The dyno is on par with other cars. I think mine is high too but I looked into the runners on intake and exhaust and compared them to a friends stock heads that just came off his car and they look stock. Idk if they're milled or anything, but I don't think that would still put it where it is. The car made 417/379 with ls6 intake, stock throttle body, slp lid, stock maf, stock rockers, and 1 3/4 headers.

If the heads really are stock then that is fairly generous, especially considering it's through a 9" rear and large drag radials.

Dynos are just tools anyway.

Sounds to me like it's time to get some aftermarket or ported stock heads and see how much more it can make. Added compression will also be your friend.

I would be curious to see what it would make with a PRC 2.5 LS6 head on it but I'm gonna build a 408 for it and wait to choose heads then. I've got a nitrous kit on it just getting the stock motor where I want it and I've got some chassis/lightening to do now. It's a full weight 99 SS leather int and all. The only reason it was put on a dyno before the work that I did was to prove the gain I would get bc I had a couple ppl telling me it wouldn't pick up more than 10hp going from the ls6 intake and 1 3/4 headers. I'm not really all that concerned abt the number, just curious with the higher number considering the mods

Do you have the dyno graph? That is a bit high. The trap speed will tell you all you really need to know. Plan on a track visit soon?

I'm going to let it cool off before I go. It's in the mid to upper 90s right now where I'm at. I'll see if I can get the pic to load

The top pic is the only one I have with the 417 pull on it.
