Default Front 4 outter head bolts spewed seltzer water at me??

So, I was pulling my heads off the mockup engine. When I cracked the 4 outer large head bolts, everything was fine. When I got to about 1-3 threads loose, liquid spewed out like it was a rabid alkaseltzer dispenser. I thought is was antifreeze (it has to be) but it was clear, not orange like the water in the jacket that dripped all down my sleeve earlier.

I will assume water made it past the headgasket into the bolt holes or we talking about a porous/cracked block/bolt holes? I dont think it could be cracked or the pressure should have released by now?

Did you drain the radiator and/or block completely before doing this?

Sounds like bolt holes weren't dried out prior to installing head bolts during the previous head install (not original dry install, but head re-installed after having had removed them w/ coolant in block). If water isn't removed from the head bolt holes before installing bolts, it gets trapped in the hole by the bolt & can expand & crack block &/or remain pressurized until bolts are removed.

Block was sitting out striped for the most part for a few months when I grabbed it off the recyclers floor

Yea, it idid!! Came out under high pressure with a "pshhhhh" sound and pure foam. When it settle down, rather quick, it was a clear liquid. Wasnt green-ish or orange-ish (that I remember), like what was actually still in the block that dripped all over me when I removed the first head and turned the engine, but clear. I did work on it at night with dim-ish light while it dripped on a dirty block, so, maybe I didnt see it well enough? Still looked darn clear to me cause it did puddle up fairly well in one section. Thats my story and I am sticking to it, lol. Well, at least being pressurized means it didn't crack anything??? Gonna go out in a few days to see if there is any left in the bolt holes to get a better idea.

Guess that means its a sadistic POS!!

Thanks for the input guys
