Default 5.3

I found more info on the net and yes there on the side of the block so now the question is can I make it work in my 99 camero. Any thoughts on that or seen someone else do that on the forum. Thanks

Wellll.... I am sad to report that the engine let go of rod #1 on my way home today.

Not sure what caused it but I'm leaning towards a rod bolts.

Lesson here for me is, "Live and Learn"...

What leads you to think it's the rod bolt that failed?
but that sucks for sure. I'm in the middle of a 5.3 build myself.

Guessing that's what it was, could be wrong. Not fiddling with it for a week or so, but will post up what I find. Happened on the highway so I doubt I'll find all the parts.

Sorry to see such a fun build end this way.
Recently I learned how much the big end of these rods distorts when re-torquing them
even with the oem bolts. May have contributed to the bearing wear and failure in your
situation
Sorry again !!

Oh damn, carnage. It appears that you didn't even have to remove the oil pan to get that picture! Sorry for your luck. I've been there before. I'm glad you didn't have too much invested in this build...
just curious since this is your first engine build, did you clearance any of the rotating assembly or did you install some OEM bearings in there without checking?
Hopefully the crank is not scarred or in need of any attention.
good luck.

Honestly we threw OEM bearings in there and didn't check (Stupid move on my part). I was speaking with our local LSx guru about the failure and his best guess, "What I saw tells me one of the #1 rod bolts failed in tension. The crank pin isn't even blued at all." We're pretty sure the block is salvageable if the piston didn't slam into the head etc.

Needless to say, this week wasn't great at all.

Tuesday, the fuel pump quit working. $55 tow to shop.

Wednesday, we cut the trap door at my request to figure the pump out. Wiggled the connector and it started working again... Threw a rod and had to be towed, another $89 ( For less than 10 miles to my house ).

Life is funky, haha. All this is now is a good reason to go all out since and forge it since I have a Daily Driver now.

Plus I get to make another build thread or make this one longer.

Yeah, no kidding.

My goal now is at least 800 to the wheels.

Picked up a 5.3 block last night for $200 and it's at the machine shop now being worked over.

Sold my nitrous kit today for $450.

Ordered some Eagle Rods CRS6100L3D last night, paid $430 for them. Checked price today and they went back up to $560.

Need to order my pistons next, if anyone has a place that they're on sale, please let me know. I am looking to the Wiseco -2.2CC Forged pistons.

My garage is turning into an LS Graveyard, hehe.

Had a package show up today.

Anyone have any reviews of the K1 Technologies Forged Crankshafts, particularly the 5.3 one, 012FAE362 is the part number.

Decided to go with the WiseCo -2.2 CC pistons as well, just waiting to find a sweet deal on them.

I scored a deal on the crank I wanted. K1 Forged 3.622.

Checked the price on it this morning and it went back up to $799. Payed $730 shipped. Had the same thing happen with my rods, price went up $150 the next day.

Side note - My truck got rear ended the other night, glad I was not in the bird. Pretty sure the bird would have been totaled if I was. Guy was going at least 40 when he hit us.

Crank will be here within a week. Also pulled the trigger on a turbo kit this evening. I'll be eating Ramen for a few weeks...

Next on the list is injectors and fuel rails.

Also made progress on pulling the engine, only thing left is couple trans bolts and flywheel bolts. Any tips or tricks to get them out with it still in car?

Crank came in today. Kind of laughed a little as the box weighed as much as the girl delivering it.

Making progress on pulling the old engine out. Just having a hell of a time removing the trans bolts.

Wasn't there for the delivery of it.

Ordering the Dual Pump Assembly 680LPH from racetronix tomorrow though.

Anyone have thoughts on the Holley EFI fuel rails?

LS2 Block is back from the shop. Had it bored over 0.005. Ordered my pistons earlier, Wiseco -11cc R/Dome 4.005 from Hinson as they were on sale for ~$70 less. Soon as those come in, we will start fitting the pieces to the puzzle.
