Default gen 3 rods safe hp limit

I've tried to find as much info as I can on the subject but can't seem to find a solid answer , I'm running a 02 5.3 with a t78 through a t56 and Steve Williams will be tuning it . My question is where should I stop power wise , it's mainly street driven with the occasional trip to the track

There have been people up there in power with them. Denmah and sloppymechanics folks put up high numbers. My buddies gen 3 turbo sbe ran great until it spiked 40psi. Only bent one rod.

The most risk to a rod in a properly running engine is the tension placed on it and the rod bolts when the piston changes direction between exhaust and intake stroke, rpm and piston weight being the two big players there, hp not even in the equation.

You can rev a 5.3 to 7400 if it has rod bolts in it

If you're gonna be upwards and beyond 750, why even test a stock rod? You really need to invest in a set of H-beams.
Why chance a multi-thousand dollar engine to a $400 set of rods?

It's a junkyard engine with cam , rod bolts , head studs and gapped rings ... I'm just changing the turbo and don't want to go past the rods limit , plus it's in the car and I have a gen4 6.0 on stand by if it lets go

I'd say 750 is good number. I'd just go to 700, call it a day, and see if they hang on.

At 602whp on the stock bottom end I had a piston let go. Had a built bottom end replace it all so not sure at what point the rods would have self destructed on that setup. I was hitting it with a 175 shot pre-built motor and got away with it for over a year.

Like I said rpm and piston weight are bigger factors in rod strength.
Pistons are usually taken out by detonation.
