Do a search for broken yella terra rockers. :) You may change your mind on that. |
Make sure you get gen 3 yella terras. If you are buying them new you will get the gen 3s and be fine. Or get some pm guides in the trickflows and run stock rockers with trunion |
What intake and exhaust valves are in the heads right now? You could gain some power by going with some lightweight valves if they aren't already in there. |
All Valves are Original Trickflow with Dbl Springs , I have another set of Stock Rockers I had Considered doing a Trunion Upgrade & calling it good .... Where to get the Best Shim ...PM Guide ??? setup for the Stock Rockers ???? Not Sure the $ Diff is worth the Gains of New Yella Terra's over Stock Rockers (which I Already have ) with the Trunion Upgrade ..... That's why I'm Here :-) Thanks for All the Help & Input |
If it were me, I'd run the trunion upgrade on the stock rockers. As far as PM guides, how many miles do you plan on putting on the car each year? I know guys will tell you that PM guides are a must, but my AI Dart/RHS heads don't have PM guides, and I'm running the stock rockers, and I haven't had any issues. Granted, I only put about 1,500 to 2,000 miles on my car a year. |
I think there has been one or two threads about the third gen breaking. That being said I don't think a lot of people set them up properly in the first place. I think most just bolt them in without checking the geometry or spring pressure. If you saw the wipe pattern of stock rockers compared to roller rockers , its a night and day difference. I've run them on both my motors with no problems spinning to 7200 and I have two buddies with them that daily drive with heads and cam with no issues either (one set I know has about 25k on them) They are all the third gen rockers. Found a thread for some more info! https://ls1tech.com/forums/generatio...-failures.html |
Might be worth it to get the YT 10mm rockers. They are stronger with less deflection than the stock 8mm YT rockers. You have to machine the heads to accept the larger stud, but it will help. Also, moving to a turned-down LS3 valve will decrease your valve weight from 110g to 83g on the intake, making everything easier to control. Chrs1313 did it with his TFS 215s and picked up 8-10rwhp on the top end if I recall correctly. The other option is to use stock rockers with upgraded trunions... but if the PM guides aren't installed, I'd definitely run the RR on those heads. They are more prone to damage with the guides due to their geometry than other 15 degree heads like AFR or Dart. |
My Current Setup is a Stock Block '99 LS 1 , Stg 2.5 5.3's , Pat G Cam , Fast 92/92 , EWP , UP, with Exhaust I mentioned is 440rwh,415rwtq . Stock Rockers .The First 5 Yrs I put 25k on the Car , 5 Power Tours , 2 Pinks AllOut , The First LSX Shootout , 80 Track Passes leavin on the Limiter at 7k .... I will be Driving it A lot ! It is in a Makover rt now with VFN Hood & Fenders ...Dropped 75lbs , '08 Airaid Z06 CAI out Front !!, FullSpeedtech Fnt Set up with Coilovers ... New Wheels & 13" PTFB Wilwood Disc . I will Dyno the Car Again with only Change Being the Z06 Filter Setup . I have Followed Chris Since He Started & am just Checking to make Sure of any thing I have Missed or New . I am Looking for no less than 500 + Rwh & 450 + Rwtq . Larger Studs are a Given , is the $ for the. LS3 Valves worth the Gain. How much is That at TEA??? How Big of a Pushrods can I Use on these Heads ? THANKS for all the Input !!! |
The 3/8" pushrods fit in the TFS heads. I'd run those. BTR has them for the best price and lots of different in stock sizes. I don't know if TEA does the LS3 valves anymore, but they have Ferrea hollow-stem valves. They may not be quite as light, but are lighter than the normal Ferrea valves. I think the cost went up quite a lot on the LS3 valves (I don't know if they had issues with them or not). So that might have contributed to going with an aftermarket hollow-stem. Camshaft... I didn't see where you were going with that. But on a 383, I'd look at the EPS cams ground on Cam Motion billet cores (As you know, PatG uses EPS lobes and Cam Motion now too). Geoff has an off-the-shelf stroker grind that would be awesome with TFS heads in a 383. It's a 242/248 .621"/.615" 114+4 LSA cam. I'd aim for 11.8:1 compression. I think 500 can be had depending on the drivetrain and 470+ in torque should be possible. |
Thanks ! Geoff tuned my car first time around & will seek his & Pats Help on this Build . |
