I just use a good synthetic and a ZDDP additive. My cam grinder recommended bumping the zinc up a bit with the high spring pressures. I only used JG break-in oil after my rebuild.

Running the Joe Gibbs 10w40 dyno oil in my LS3 based 427 during the break in. Was running the Joe Gibbs 5w30 but with my bearing clearances I did not like the low oil pressure. The initial break in was with Shaffer 10W30. All these oil have a good ZDDP content.

I used to run Joe Gibbs XR7 in my Drag crx. I tried 4 different brand oils in my car, and the Joe Gibbs was the only one that didnt come out smelling like it was burnt. Im about done with my break in on Amsoil, and will be putting JG in my built 5.3

The break in oil is made for a reason and there is science behind it. Why not use it when you spend that much money on the motor setup. Same goes for hifh end oils lik Joe Gibbs. I'll gladly pay a little extra for it knowing I have a great oil that I don't have to worry about.
What DOCUMENTATION do you have to suggest you need to worry about even the cheapest retail shelf oil?
Paul hit the nail on the head.
I used to get suckered by advertising and "what everybody says to use this week" but I'm better educated now.
