I'm referring to both.
Well first off if you have a heavy fly/clutch combo and you don't use the inertia from it it's hurting you the entire way down the track.
Where darths 60' is either is a none issue. He needs to sort his technique before any question if maximum performance do to flywheel weight even comes up in conversation. There likely is a optimal weight. But that would take alot of testing.
The reality is a light clutch helps momentum more in 1st/2nd gear than any other gear allowing the engine to rev as fast as it can in a area of the track that has the least load. In 4th gear a lighter clutch is not as valuable because the engine is loaded harder thus revving slower.
I've 60'd in the 1.5 range with a 17lb clutch/fly combo. Clutch/fly weight is not his issue.

And I do REALLY feel it in first and second. By the time I'm in fourth, I can't tell much difference. I still can in third. But since we all dyno in fourth, you never really see it on a dyno, but you can really feel it for the first 85-mph
The only negative I have with a light clutch is the return to idle gets trickier. There was a thread in the manual section where some of that came up I think.
And before you say "pics!" check the avatar...

Please don't swap to an auto. Anyone can drive an auto. I used to race my 05 gto back in 06 and lose most of the times bracket racing. But i did win a first place trophy once and a runner up once. To me there is nothing like powershifting 2 gear in a stick car.
