Made some good progress today. Used ls1howto.com for the torque sequence for the head bolts. The tip about using a permanent marker to check rotation of the bolts was handy.

I saw the trick flow bracket but I already have holes drilled I just need a different bolt spacing. I may design my own. We'll see.
I still need to clean the valve and timing chain covers and then powder coat them. Since I have some time before I will be completing the engine assembly, I decided to switch gears for the moment and started to work on the transmission.
Has a long list of parts needed...

Prototypes complete!
The dimensions on the 1st attempt were off. Long story short I got it fixed and created a second one which fit waaaaaaay better!

No, the prototypes were 3D printed out of PLA. They won't work for anything other than making sure my dimensions were correct.
Designing the part was was fun because GM used some goofy dimensions and trying to recreate them with a set of calipers was tons of fun.
Material selection will be the next challenge. A brass/bronze alloy would be nice but would get expensive....same with aluminum (plus it has poor wear properties). Plastics really are suited best but with so many to chose from its a balance between cost of material, properties of the material, and the manufacturing process.
The OEM one looks injection molded which would be nice but requires a lot of setup cost.

Final drawing complete - hopefully. I'll make one more prototype before sending the drawing to the shop to have one made.
I found bushings and bolts that I will order tomorrow. Once I do a final verification, I'll send the drawing to the shop to have a few functional parts made.

Looks like I have a quote to make dampers - I'll post up a separate thread with the information but would anyone be interested in one? Material will be Nylon based with properties suitable for the inside of an engine.

Well, I just placed an order for custom LS1/LS6 dampers. I was quoted a 3 week lead time... can't wait till they get here and I can get my engine finished!

My timing chain dampeners finally arrived. I was able to bolt it up the other night. Fits like a glove. I can finally finish closing up the engine.
Still need to finish my transmission.
Ls1/ls6 timing chain dampener
Clears oil pump with ease.

Did some more work on my engine last night. She's all assembled and ready for install. I'll put the intake and accessories on after I get it bolted into the car.
Can't wait!

Anyone using solid plate mounts?
Something like this - http://www.ictbillet.com/lsx-front-e...ck-ls-ls1.html
I was planning on using them in my car but I need to know how the accessories or if the accessories can be bolted back on. I am not running PS or AC so only the alternator is a concern. I'll be using the factory truck bracket to bolt the alternator back on.
