Default 98 Trans am using 317 heads what do i need??

I just recently bought a pair of 317 heads of flee bay I was wondering is there anything that I might need to have these heads work with my current setup. i will be going forced induction so I am not worried about flow on these heads like bumping up compression. As far as my ignition coils do I need to purchase the brackets???? Also what gasket do I use the stock 6.0 gasket or can I go ls9 gasket?? I will be running ARP studs to not blow head gaskets. Thanks in advance....

Need more details. What engine is this going on? Camshaft?

As far as your car being a 98, you will need the 99+ valve covers & coil brackets to run those heads. If your engine is a 5.7L you will need to use the 5.7L gasket, not a 6.0L gasket.

You need to use a gasket that works with the bigger of the two between engine and heads.
Of what i have seen is the LS9 head gasket is a compressed thickness of .051 which is the same as the 5.7. The LS9 head gasket would be the best choice of the ones you mentioned for forced induction.

Well I since the head is different I thought it wouldnt line up with the heads so I would be using a lq4 gasket but your saying the LS9 or the LS1 head gasket would work but the LS9 would be better ? Sorry about the stupid questions I just want to make sure I am doing everything right

No. You do not match the gasket to the head. You match the gasket to the bore of the engine. Which in this case is a 3.9" bore and needs a 5.7L head gasket.

I know there is some debate on this. Some of the aftermarket heads have chambers opened up for large bores and so they'll recommend a 4.180" bore gasket for even a 3.898" bore cylinder.

Personally, I just want to make sure the bore of the gasket is larger than the cylinder so I agree with you, but I wouldn't say someone is wrong for running even larger than necessary, especially for a boosted application.

It's a seven layer gasket. I think the other GM gaskets are 4 or 5 layer. The LS9 gasket probably would be better in your case since you plan to use boost. Most NA applications would be better off with the smaller bore LS1 gasket for more compression.
