Default Ls1 turbo head gasket questions

im currently about to start doing my cam swap, and single turbo install. I was wondering if I could effectively lower compression with a thicker head gasket, and if it was worth doing so, or will the drop in compression be negligible . Also how it would effect quench as well as pushrod length etc. any help is greatly appreciated. Just trying to maximize my ls1 stock engines ability to handle 600 at the tires for a few months until winter comes and I can drop in a tsp 408 long block with twins and not have to worry again

For 600HP your factory compression with the LS1 will be fine.

It wouldn't lower it enough to really make much difference. Switching to 317 heads would be your best bet if you were going to do anything. You'll most likely also get different opinions on this, but if you are only going to run pump gas on your ls1, then 600rwhp is going to be pushing it and on borrowed time. The sbe ls1 thread shows about 550rwhp is the limit for living a while, but some have lived at well more than that too, but for how long...

If your goal is only getting a month or so out of it until you buy your new motor, then you can push the envelope. A good tuner will be your best bet along with meth injection or e85 for it living a long time. It's jmo, but I wouldn't go much past 550rwhp if you aren't using 317 heads, regapped your rings for boost, or on meth/e85.

Also what plugs should I run for 10-15 psi I? I'm currently running br7ef as i was spraying 150-200hp through a wet kit. and should I install a new oil pump? I know the 98 was notorious for issues but I never see below 40+ psi at idle , regardless of weather conditions etc and between 60-80 psi under load. the car was bone stock when I bought it but I'm wondering if it was addressed before I got it.

I would recommend sticking with the BR7EF plugs. Oil pump, and timing chain is not a bad idea to replace either if you are already going to be in there.

Yeah I think you'll be good at that power then for the short time you with running meth with nitrous. I'd also stick with the br7ef's too.
