Default Is their a better cam?

I'm in the process of building a 6.0 for my 99 T/A auto. The car will be some what of a DD and a weekend warrior. So drive ability is important.. of course a nasty idle and huge HP is always desirable, but power under the curve is preferred.

the 6.0 is going to be N/A with 3.900 crank, dss racing 1880-4030 pistons and hand ported 799 heads ls6 intake. I think compression is around 11:1. I have a summit #8707 cam at the moment but wonder if their is better choice. Since their is a lot more experienced people on this site I was hoping to get advice!
Thanks! Eric

Power under the curve usually means you won't have a huge hp number especially with a 3.900 crankshaft. There is a trade off most of the time.

I'd probably drop the exh duration 10 degrees to chill out the idle and guarantee smooth cruising but I'd say if you already got it, run it. With a good tuner it will be fine

I figured I couldn't have both..Unfortunately. But a smooth power band throughout the rpm is what I'm wanting the most.

Stay under 232 intake duration and you'll have what you want.

very good! Seems like I read somewhere that also helps with driveability. Is that correct?
Thanks tuskyz28

no, too big. Stay with what you got or get something in the low 22x/22x range

No problem. Good rule of thumb is find what cam you think you need, then go a little bit smaller. Going too big will hurt a lot more then going to small will.

I have the 8707 cam in my 6.0 with 799 heads and stock truck intake. Drives awesome great power everywhere and has great drivability. I also run terminator x so I can tune everything myself

thanks for reaching out! Great to hear! I've been kicking around the idea of adapting the terminator X or HP to replace the factory ecu.. for ease of tuning.. with those two systems are you able to tune on the fly? Also can you control electrical shift trans?

stock computer is way to go. Its very easy to tune and will drive well. Not to mention youd have to piggy back for emmisions, doesn't always drive well, cost more money etc.

oh really, I didn't know it would have to be piggybacked .. maybe I'll just stick with the dyno tune plan... the extra money I'd save could go to something else. Thanks Bspeck

i have no idea off hand. It’s the fuel pump that came in a Holley sniper master kit that I re-used for my LS swap
