Oil pump alignment .003/.005?
Just aligned my new GMPP HV oil pump on my 150k 5.3 and did a custom cam and new timing set.
I read and watched videos on how to align the pump and it's not difficult I used 3 sets of feeler gauges but it seems tight to me.
I got .002" on the outside of the gear to the housing and .005" between the inner gear and crank gear. Does that sound about right? From what I've seen it's more like .003 and .006 or something else. I also used thick permatex engine assembly lube when setting it up as I'm not going to start the motor for at least another 4months.

A lot of people don't even bother with trying to line them up. I usually just bolt them on and go but I do try and center it up. U are supposed to use 3 .003 gauges going around the outer gear between the pump housing. This makes where the gears are lined up when ever u bolt the pump housing down to the block.

Oil Pump Install
Hi, I too agree with the above reports.
The "art" here is to CENTER the G-Rotors inside the pump housing with respect to crankshaft center.
The OEM pumps use Rubber Washers around the mounting bolt threads.
A good thought would be to fit a rubber O-Ring if they were not found.
