Default 382cid stroker rebuild, ideas what to do?

I have currently my frieds 382 stroker taken apart in my workshop, and i´m bit lost on ideas what to do with this.

So what i have, i think it´s from Mosler racecar.

LS1 block, damaged
JE3814 flat top pistons, 3.898, pretty worn out, about 0.007"
6.125 rod, probably Oliver, atleast bolts are
4.0" crank, maybe Callies
243 heads
ASA cam, so 0.525"/0.525" 226/236, LSA 110.
LS6 springs
LS6 intake

I did also have so neat stuff, dry sump system, Ati fluidamper, 7.25 clutch etc. Specs seem to pretty much match what i´ve read from mosler engines.

1 piston pins clip has been loose, and there has been bad sratches in 1 cylinder, owner had engine taken apart and someone honed scrathes off, probably without stess-plates and it´s now 0.015" over, so this block is junk if im´m correct.

Owner wants healthy N/A engine +450whp, that has room to add boost later if needed.

Plan was to source 6.0 block, and build this to that but here come´s what i´m guessing for.

What are those 243 heads and intake capable of in 408cid stroker, does that 4.0" go to waste and just shorter engine age in matter of piston wear.

ASA cam, i don´t quite know what to think about that, low lift and big LSA, i know thats not good for boosted aplications, but where it draws line with this in N/A engine.

What would you guys do?

Piston wear is really going to depend on block prep and piston design. There are some crappy designs out there on the market and if you forget to debur the bottom of the cylinders, you're going to have issues. I like Wiseco, personally.

Unported 243 heads are plenty capable for a 450whp goal. They have been known to make over 500whp in some really well sorted out combos, even more with a good CNC program run through them. The extra cubes underneath will certainly help.

I thought 243 vs. L92 head difference is bigger. Well good

What about Ls6 intake, where´s the limits of that?

What cam would be suggested if i´ll stick with originall plans 408cid and those 243 heads.

So compression ratio maybe in 10.5 level, so there´s room to drop it a tad with thicker gaskets if there comes boost later, and overal cam. Good for N/A but also should work for boosted application.

I think that the ASA cam might be too small for your 4" stroke, and I think you'll end up disappointed. You should probably be looking more at cam durations like 232/240

There is a member here running 10's NA with a Howards ASA cam & 1.85 rockers in a 346. It's a fairly capable cam, just throw some 1.8 rockers on it and bring the lift up. It would work OK with a centri blower but would not be optimal.

That being said I would change cams to optimize the setup.

230/240 area and probaly ~0.620 lift what i had in mind...? But what about LSA, is 112 suitable compromise with that boost in mind, or 114? Dunno is it ever going to happen, but owner wnat´s to keep that door open.

Edit:
That last post did come while i was typing this, yes 1.8 rockers was one thing on mind.

Just get the Brute Speed Blower cam.

As this is probably going to be N/A for a while, we decided to go with N/A cam, and swap it later with turbo if it´s going to happen.

TSP recommended this and seems nice.

What do you guys think, how much power i´m going to gain in this kind of engine compared to ASA cam, quite a lot money afterall with springs etc.

What about that ls6 intake, any real gain for swapping etc to Fast 102

Btw. that asa cam, that would be leftover, too big for my stock LM7 budget build?

I would make cam choice after selecting intake manifold and deciding what to do with the 243 heads. Properly ported 550 rear wheel is possible with sorted car and supporting mods with the 243's. I would pick the cam based off of what the heads and intake end up being.

What's the budget for rebuild?

James Day (TXCAMSS) had a 408ci shortblock topped with ported Greg Good 5.3 heads. That car eventually ran 10.00 with a circle D stalled 4L60E. Ported Fast 92mm intake..... I say a 243 headed 408ci certainly has the power to hurt some feeling.

Imo 243 heads, ls6 intake and an ASA cam would be a pretty weak combo on a 408
