Default 5.3 knock (video)

226k miles and knock started all the sudden from a cold start. Regular oil changes and oil level is good. Motor also uses little to no oil. It sounds like passenger side op end to me. I'm thinking i'll pull the valve cover and see but wanted to see what others thought. Sorry for sideways video. As you can tell from video, I was in a hurry to get back around and turn the thing off before it came apart. LOL

Vehicle is my 03 Tahoe 4x4. Had it 5 years and its been a good one.

I'm all ears for thoughts and suggestions.

Sounds like a collapsed valve lifter.

I agree. Valvetrain noise, not lower end/rotating assembly.

id pull the valve cover on that side and check the rockers, I had one come apart at about that mileage. No matter what though that is defiantly valve train like the others said.

Thanks guys. This vehicle has spent some time up North and has some minor rust so I don't want to go all out to fix it. I'm hoping to just replace the components that are needed. I'll let you know what I see when I pull the VC.

I still haven't gotten into it yet. It's a spare vehicle. I'll certainly let you guys know when I do.
