difference between 00 - 02 camaro

Slightly different cam, LS6 intake used on the 01-02, better rod bolts on the 01-02, that's probably about it.

I think 02 cars got the power steering cooler standard. You know the one that eventually fails and contaminates the PS fluid with coolant and vise versa.
In 00 typically only FireHawks, WS6, SS maybe B4C's or special order would have got the PS cooler standard.
The 00 vs 02 cam difference is interesting and probably not as much as first thought.
Fbody Cams see post #8 info below.
Stated Specs:
stock LS1 cam '98-00:
202/210 intake/exhaust degrees duration
.496/.496 inches lift
116 LSA
stock LS1 cam '01-02:
198/197 intake/exhaust degrees duration
.478/.478 inches lift
115 LSA
here is the correct info as spec'd by a $250,000 machine at Comp
stock 98 trans am cam
duration@.050 198.86 intake & 209.25 exhaust
lift .498 intake .497 exhaust
LSA 119.45
stock 02 trans am cam
duration@.050 196.37 intake & 208.72 exhaust
lift .464 intake .479 exhaust
LSA 115.92

Yes the slightly smaller cam of the 01-02 cars was a step backwards , but the factory bump of 5hp to 310 was primarily due to the LS6 intake and the improved design of the exhaust manifolds they received the preceding year .How many other cars bone stock would deliver rwhp , compared to what was advertised rating ! There have been a few , but not most.

thanks for the info
the cam profile would suggest the 98 is more torque oriented then the 2001-2002 which is more hp oriented 98( 119.5 ) 01-02 ( 115.5 )
on recent dyno test the LS2 cam seem to have the best of both worlds covered ( torque and horse power ) do you have the real specs on the LS2 cam?

FWIW - I don't like the LS2 cam at all. It has floated valves quicker than any other factory cam in some tests from what I've read.
This has floated around web both on LS1Tech & the Corvette forum.
According to our cam doctor, the LS2 specs are as follows.
Lobe Seperation = 115.9
Intake Centerline = 111.9
Exhaust Centerline = 119.9
Intake Duration @ .050 = 203.7
Exhaust Duration @ .050 = 212.5
Intake valve lift = .52044
Exhaust valve lift = .52111
The 2002 LS6 cam is better in my opinion. Not as prone to float valves & more powerful.
02 LS6 Cam specs
These are "actual" numbers from a cam that was check with Cam Doctor
Duration@.050: 205* intake, 219* exhaust
Lift: 0.551 intake, 0.549 exhaust
LSA: 117.4
GM shows this for lift. Not sure of the other spec's
.551-in lift on the intake and .547 on the exhaust.
