Default ls1 crank vs 5.3 crank

I have a 98 ls1 block that spun a rod bearing pretty much killing the crank. The local machine shop (which I trust) says they can't tell if its good without checking/tearing into it (costing me money). They want $230 to take .010 out of it and go from there. Id rather just buy someones good 5.3 crank which can be had in my area for $100.
My question is, whats the difference between the two, and can I just use a 5.3 crank and send it? My budget is low and I don't wanna risk spending $230 on the crank and it needing more to be ground out of it.

I have read some posts about the crankshaft tail width and such and hope someone can enlighten me. Yes, ill end up getting the bottom end balanced so I can't think of a reason not use a 5.3 crank.

Thanks in advance.

No major differences unless the 5.3 is a Gen 4. If you have both cranks, thats easily solved.

Well here is what you have to weigh no pun intended. Yes the 5.3 crank will work ,but its balanced for a lighter piston. The LS1 crank is already balanced for its rod/piston. The last time I had a crank balanced it was $175 ..Before you go any further inspect your block and make sure its one you want to build .A 98 block would not be my first choice to build.
