Default LQ4 370 Piston/Rod Questions

Machine shop has to take my LQ4 to .030 over to clean up the cylinders. Ive been shopping for about 24 hours for a good direct replacement for the piston but have that the GOOD replacements require a 6.125" rod as opposed to the stock 6.098" rod.

Id like to stay under $800 for rod and piston combos but am not having any luck. Is this how it is or am I missing something?

I need to keep as close to stock compression ratio of 9.45:1 as possible.

I'll take any advice or help I can get.

DSS flat top 5cc forged from Tick $399, Scat 6.125" I-beams from the WS6store, $298
I just did this with a 6.0 .030 block I had laying around, assembly at the machine shop being balanced right now. Mahle file fit rings from Summit, $111, all of these items shipped for free and are an upgrade over the OEM stuff, the rods have 7/16 ARP bolts, bushed for floating pins, have hollow dowels to positively locate the caps. The pistons are a hardy 500 grams ea. and have deep valve reliefs so just about any common shelf cam is going to work without PTV issues . This is about $806 for a semi forged bottom end. If you can do better, let me know.

Wiseco has their Pro Tru and Junkyard Dog piston series for the stock rods.

Yeah, the more I sat around and looked at it the more I came up with this exact solution.

Also, the more I sat around and researched the more Im comtemplating full forged lower and slightly better parts.

Yeah but a full forged bottom end requires a 4340 crank and that won't be cheap, even in stock stroke. The stock cranks are stout as hell hi nodular iron and are commonly used in FI applications with 800+RWHP, got to ask yourself if it's worth it. If so, just buy a complete balanced rotating assembly.

Those Pro Tru's have a dome on them and will raise his compression way beyond what he want's. The DSS's have a flat top and with a 317 head he would be right around the SCR of 9.45:1

Did something similar to this about a 18 months ago on my 403ci. No issues with the those pistons and rods. Only thing I would strongly recommend is get the ARP 2000 bolts over the 8740 and use a stretch gauge when you go to torque the rod bolts. Also I used King bearings.

We have the stock hyper e pistons for both pressed and floating pin with std or file fit rings VERY cheap in 4.030. We also sell alot of the mahle power pak pistons which come in a 4.030 in alot of pin/rod length combos. They run $635 - $725 for rings pistons and pins. mahle recently came out with a brand new ring set. 1mm 1mm 2mm std oil. Its a serious ring for the price!

We also have quite a few stock/ forged rod options also.
