Default Options for getting to 400Hp in z28 camaro

Just got a 99 z28 camaro 6 speed manual and was wondering where I should put my money to achieve more horsepower. It's a summer daily driver that I just want to be a little more faster. I was thinking 400 hp wouldn't be hard to achieve but I also have limited knowledge on the subject. I was hoping to not spend a whole of money but I also want the car to hold up to my daily driving. The ls1 only has 45k miles on it too.

400 flywheel or at the wheels? Big difference. Either way, it is very doable. An LS6 intake manifold(available used or Dorman repro), an LS6 cam (or one close to it, most aftermarket ones are actually better), and getting the heads ported would put you over 400HP at the flywheel. If it is legal in your state(I live in Cali where they are not), long tube headers will go a long way to making more power.

I mean 400 at the wheels would be sweet. Just dont want to go overboard because it's a daily. Of course I want it fast but not undrivable on the street. I have a magnaflow exhaust and a cold air intake that's was put on by the previous owner. I just really want it to be reliable but still fast when I want to be. How much roughly for what you're saying?

To get a close number, call either WS6 Store or Texas Speed and Performance. Either can help you do what you want AND keep the budget reasonable. They both have histories of happy customers, and are both sponsors of this site. All the best to you!

Id check out loyd eliot and have him put together a cam and heads package. And dont forget a tune. You could easily achieve 450 rwhp.

Just bolt ons and cam will het you there, or you could do a small shot of nitrous or supercharge it. Going that route it will drive like stock but have plenty of power when needed

400 at the crank with great driveability is easy and can be done relatively cheap. You don't even need to pull the heads. Here's my recommendations:

LS6 or used fast 78, 90 or 92 intake.
Port the throttle body
Titan2 cam from cam motion
Psi-1511 springs
Upgrade to 5/16 pushrods
Long tube headers if you can get past smog
Tune

That should get you to 400 rear wheel

Now other stuff I also recommend that won't necessarily improve dyno results but will register on the butt dyno.

If you have a manual trans, jump to 3.90 rear gear

If an auto, do a stall converter in the 3000 range and rear gears at 3.73

A cam with supporting mods and longtubes should me plenty to get you there. You can get a mild cam and drivability would not be affected. I would call one of the sponsors shops and have a talk with them.

Ls6 intake and nearly any long tubes will get you 390s - 400 at the wheels with our high lift hot cam kit. comes with cam and springs for $515. cam install kit is $39.99 and thats pretty much it! super easy to drive and tune. idles aggressive.
