Smile Crank Main oil clearence advice

Hi there Ls1 lovers.

I'm rebuilding my LS1 and shoving in some goodies.
I was putting in the main bearings and crank.
Torqued it to ARP stud specs. And these are the plasti-gauge
measurements I'm getting.
Keep in mind my crank has had a polish and a grind and had
to use .020 for the mains.

1= .00236
2= .00251
3= .00251
4= .00299
5= .00248

Is this a worry or is these clearances absolutely fine ?

Engine is just going to be used as a street car and not for racing. But with some occasional drag nights. I'm looking at just getting 550-600hp out of it with a centrifugal supercharger on a low boost setting.

your advice is greatly appreciated

Plasti gauge readings are worthless except to tell you have clearance. You need to mic everything to know what you really have.

Years ago I was putting together a engine using plasti gauge and all the mains checked good, crank wouldn't turn without a bar on the end of it.......................

With it all torqued down, I'm getting a very smooth action on the crank. Turning both ways. Used assembly lube.
I'm using Clevite .020 bearings.

It will work, but it's really loose if those numbers are accurate. Unless you use a high volume pump, like a Melling 10296 or 10355, the oil pressure would be low.

I'm not sure what options you have though since your crank is ground .020". I think ACL might make some .019" under bearings to tighten up the clearance a little. Or you might be able to have the block line honed if the main bores are on the loose end of the spec. That might even make it more consistent from front to back too.
