150$ LS1 Craigslist gem or turd
First post on here guys so be easy on me. I am in the process of doing an Ls L33 swap into my third gen camaro. I bought the engine, t56, all the harnesses and brackets etc to get this project going Just was waiting for ps pump bracket (doing f body spacing) to pop up on Craigslist. Well ps bracket popped up, met the old man and it it was the pump and bracket for 40$. Then he tells me I have the engine that it came off of too. Opens the garage and it’s a complete rotating bottom end, 853 heads, coil packs but no intake or oil pan. His grandson wrapped the camaro around power pole so they pulled engine out a few years ago. In the cooling passages there is an extreme amount of scale or calcium (white power and chunks) and one of the comb chambers is pitted and beat to hell. I buy the whole package for 150$. I bring the block to engine shop and machinist says I’m looking at 25 over to clean up the cylinder walls bc the cylinder head broken pieces scarred it up. I have everything to make this work but my how to build ls engine boom says not to bore that big. But the machinist found pistons (non cast) all the way up to 10 over. What problems could I be facing? I’m not going to race the car, not going to turbo it, just cruise and go to car shows and stuff. Thanks Randy

10 is the max on LS1's. Very thin walls. If 25 is needed to clean up the walls, why are you even mentioning the pistons "all the way to 10 over"? When 25 is needed, but is too much? Not making sense here. Sounds like the block and heads are toast, but you could save the rotating assembly, still worth the 150 you paid for the works.

.22mm is less that 10 over (.010). http://www.metricmetal.com/wp-conten...mbers_2017.pdf

If it's an L33, you have way more cylinder wall than an LS1 and can easily achieve your goals. However, don't all L33's come with #243 castings?
Also, 25mm is almost an inch FWIW
