Are flat top pistons (4.8) worth it in a 5.3
for those that have done 4.8 pistons in a 5.3. Is it worth it. How much power can you expect. It’s basickly a stock 5.3 with a Cam and valve springs.

Very well worth it. Even better option is ls1 pistons. Only extra cost is bore and hone as our flat top 4.8s are same price as ls1s.
For the power difference look at the gen4 4.8 vs gen4 5.3. same heads cam and intake both with flat tops. quite a bit of difference.

oh wow. Ok. I’ve used them before. What kind of power you can make with a iron 5.3. Currently I put down 320 to the tires. With a Cam, springs, ls6 intake. I’d like to see 400 to the tires.

Last set of Silvolites I used I believe went in a restored 8N ford tractor.. Plain old cast. I mean what do you need at 1200 rpm anyway..
