Default ? For You All Who Have G5X3 Cams, 346 and Automatics

For you all who have 346cid with automatic transmissions and have a G5X3 camshafts, what rpms are you spinning to and what is your torque converter stall?

That's not a very big cam. Even though they won't give the cam specs, I don't imagine you'll be spinning it much higher than stock and converter choice will be whatever you want to deal with (people run 4000 stall converters on a stock cam, so yeah).

Big is subjective. I will say that the G5X3 cam is very healthy and probably close in the neighborhood where a small 346 wants with 11.5:1 compression or less naturally aspirated. Specs are available via search on this forum. Its a good cam.

If you're so knowledgeable with the cam, why are you asking questions?

A quick search shows 234/242 duration and either 112 or 114 LSA.

Because I don't want to be ignorant. If my question and reply irritated you, I apologize. It's all good!

The cam specs I found were 226/228.
It doesn't help that the manufacturer won't give the cam specs on their website, I guess that's how bad info starts.

Good to know.

Yeah I hate when they do that crap, when just about everyone else lists their specs. Definitely causes more problems than it does to help the consumer. My info could be wrong...i just searched it and several threads seemed to agree on the listed specs so who truly knows lol

I believe that you are right. Every thread that I seen confirms those specs of 234/242 @.050 .600"/610" on a 112 but i think you could've gotten it on a 114 as well. Just was curious to what rpms people are turning their cars to with this cam and what stall of their torque converters.

I thought this stick was very popular back in the day with AFR 205 headed 346 inchers that needed thin head gaskets to help get the static compression up
I would imagine it could turn 7 grand with good valve springs and push rods
And IMO a 4000 stall would be preferred in an LS1........LS2 could prolly get by with a 3600

I waiting for comp to send my cam. Though not a G5X3, it has very similar specs except i got XFI lobes. 234/242 @.050 .596"/.595" on a 112 LSA +0. I'm leaning towards a 4000 stall myself.

Check with some cam guys....but seems to me that intake lobe closes about five degrees too late for a 346"

I'm not using a single plane intake so I should be ok.

I agree with the above statement that a 4000 stall and spinning to around 7000 rpm. Also, depending on what rear end gear you have, you might wanna upgrade that as well

Gotcha. Obviously you'll have more than enough gear with that cam then

Run 12:1 compression with that for best results. Beefy pushrods also.
