What head for stock lq4 shortblock

What would you guys choose. I am wanting to run in the 10s on a 150-175 shot. Yank 3600 stock lq4 shortblock tsp torquer v2 and if the btr intake get released one of those.

Prc stage 2.5 5.3 heads 1200
Prc stage 243s 1450
Trickflows 205s 2400
Btr as cast trickflows 2150
Prc as cast 225 2100
Or any others

HCI2000SS 02-13-2018 08:45 PM

The Trick Flow heads for sure

Big bird55 02-13-2018 08:55 PM

The 220 or 205? I presume there is more porting that can be done on the as cast versions correct?

I'd call Tony Mamo and have him get you into a set of his sportsman 223s
You will run tens on "nuts" if the gear and chassis work.....a 200 shot would be single digits for sure....:secret:

Texas Speed.

HCI2000SS 02-13-2018 09:46 PM

Actually before we go any futher, do you have a budget in mind, or do you simply want the best heads money can buy?

Big bird55 02-13-2018 10:42 PM

No more the 2400 in heads

2350 was the cost of the titanium retainer Mamo 223s last fall
Hollow valves are another 150 bucks but not needed
Match that head with the Titan IV stick or Ed Curtis similar and it will rip

HCI2000SS 02-13-2018 10:58 PM

$2400 Is going to buy you a lot. With that said any aftermarket casting is going to be much better. Those Mamo 223 heads, TFS 220's, AFR, and Mast are some of the very best. But to be completely honest you could just do the TSP heads along with a 150 shot and easily be in the 10's.

Big bird55 02-13-2018 11:08 PM

So the 5.3 Heads? I'm looking at 1450 with tsp 243 heads. And a little more for the 5.3 I want to get as lose to 10.5s as I can. If it's an as cast head after looking at the memo heads I would be leaning for those. So memo heads or the prc 243s stage 1s. I want to be able to grow into a 408.

HCI2000SS 02-13-2018 11:16 PM

Well what I'm saying is you can get your goal with any of these heads plus a 150-175 shot. The 5.3 and 243 heads are going to be very similar., but either will do for what you're wanting

Big bird55 02-13-2018 11:27 PM

Thanks guys got a better idea know

Mamo's 223s are an as cast head that he specifically designed a CNC chamber program that is performed by AFR (where he used to work)
Then he hand finishes the bowl area and above the valve seat.....consider them like an optimized As-Cast head that like the PRC 225s will allow you to grow into a 408 because unlike most stage 1 or 2 stock casting which use 2.00" or 2.02" intake valves the 223/225 have either 2.05" or 2.06"....and again can also be ported out for more flow at a later date if needed...plus the thicker deck helps seal the head gaskets when spraying....

I agree with AR Shale, The Mamo MOTORSPORTS,
(MMS) 223 Sportsman Heads are The excellent
Choice for your current engine , AND have made
528 RWHP & 518 lb' with a 237/244 114+2 Cam
On a 416" which is probably at least 5-6* Shy in that
Application. Check out the Dyno Results Section
"Mild 416" with MMS 223 Heads" for all the
Info and details. The point being MMS 223s
Are a Great Value that will work from
346"-416" with the correct cam and
supporting Cast.
Good Luck

I agree with this. I would go with the 5.3L heads just to get the compression up without milling too much.
