Default 2005 CTSV (Ls6) 450 WHP Quest

Hey guys i’m New to the forums here.. I got an 05 CTS-V that is getting the tranny built at tick performance and an ls7 clutch dropped in it. I was wondering what would be required to hit 450HP N/A? i’ll show you guys what I had in mind..

226/234 113 LSA TsP Cam
TSP 1 7/8” Headers
102MM Fast Intake
90 MM ported TB
Probably port/polish stock heads
+ Tune

I already have a CAI and 3” Cat-Back, do you guys think i’ll be anywhere near 440-450ish with those mods? What Cam would you guys suggest? Keep in mind this is a DD Car.

Ditch the LS7 clutch. Otherwise, yeas that combo can get you there. Also recommend gear

The V already has 3.73 gears stock..
What clutch would you recommend? I don’t really want to spend 1000$ on a monster clutch when I can get an LS7 clutch for half the price?

I assume port and polish stock heads...not headers? If that's the case then yes 450 rwhp is very doable. Stock heads not nearly as likely. Depends on the dyno of course too

Any clutch I'm going to recommend is going to be twin disc, light, and worth it, but necessarily expensive. Heavy clutch will make the car feel sliggush..edit lol sluggish

Yes the heads lol.. thanks for catching that, what heads would you recommend.. I believe the Ls6 has 243 heads stock? I’m not entirely sure though..

Well if I remember correctly the stock flywheel weights 28pounds on the Ls6? And I can get a lightweight flywheel for the LS7, like a 14 pound one...

You should have no problem reaching your goal with the mods you've mentioned. No need for better and/or more expensive heads unless you want more than 450 rwhp. But like I mentioned dyno can vary, so I'd advise not getting caught up in a certain dyno number. Stick to your plan and you will have a 450 hp setup regardless of what one particular dyno reads on one particular day. Know what I mean?

Yeah, and that'll help vs the 59 lb assembly. If you were local, i'd say drive mine after I get the final touches done so you can feel for yourself how much better a lighter twin disc will be. Especially taking disc weight off the input shaft for high speed shifts. But if it's not in the budget, it isn't.

Yes i understand and that’s why i don’t really care about what the dyno says because I know it varies, aslong as I know in my head I got a 450rwhp setup.. Would you recommend port n polishing the stock heads?

Yes I completely understand that, and i’m not sure what local is too you, i’m in the panhandle of Texas area. I’ll look into a monster twin disc clutch though.. I appreciate you for your input!

If it were me I would. Since you're doing all this other work it just makes sense in my opinion. The LS6 heads are a great bang for the buck. If I wanted more than that on ocassion I'd do a basic nitrous setup for cheap. In fact that's what I've done to mine lol. I'm about 450 rwhp n/a and 600 rwhp on a 150 shot. For under a grand you can have a nice basic setup that makes another 100-150 hp with the flip of a switch. Hard to beat for the money

I planned on throwing in a nitrous express kit aswell.. But I was thinking more along the lines of a 75 or 100 wet shot... How many times have you sprayed on 150? I’d like to keep my motor in 1 piece as it has 114k miles.. But I will be freshening up the valvetrain!

Setup properly you could hit yours with a 100 shot all day with no worries. Honestly I rarely spray mine. I go through maybe 2-3 bottles a season at most. For me it's kind of like my insurance policy....I rarely need it since 450 rwhp is plenty 95% of the time, but just in case i run across some bigger fish, i have that extra power on tap. Nitrous works great when you treat it like this, and is a HUGE bang for the buck

The nice thing about the 100 shot is it's enough to squeeze by that bigger fish without him suspecting you are spraying. You just MIGHT be that big NA. lol

Yep no whine or whistle like you get from a blower or turbo, so it might leave them wondering a little lol

I think i’m opting towards a 233/239 113 LSA Cam over the 226/234 113 LSA... But the 223/239 has a .600” Lift, what would do you guys think i’d need to make it work? I planned on getting an LS2 Timing chain, Melling oil pump, Dual valve springs with titanium retainers, New pushrods, Head Gasket Kit and possible new comps cam rockers... Think i’d Need LS7 lifters too?

What exact valve springs were you planning on to begin with?

Gotcha. Yeah drop in that 233/239 cam with those valve springs and LS7 lifters and you'll be good to go
