2500 Truck With LQ4: 243 Heads and NBSS or L92 Top End
Pretty sure I am leaning towards milled 243 heads but just wanted to see if I am missing anything. I am changing out the heads and intake on my 2500 Suburban which makes 325hp with a BTR Stage 3 Truck Cam. After months of reading and searching here are the options I was looking at.
1. 243 milled .030 for a CR of 11:1 and a NBSS intake and throttle body. Probably not ported to save funds, but hey who knows. Cheap and effective.
2. L92 heads milled as well for a 10:1 compression and truck intake. Not ported for sure.
3. Any other killer setup someone has that I don't know about.
Will probably be switching out the 3.73 gears for 4.10. This is a daily driver so no power adders or anything else crazy. Already has 1 7/8 inch headers and dual exhaust.
Also, can I still tow 4 times a year with a CR of 11:1 and 93 octane? Thanks guys!

I would not do the L92 route. 243's milled or maybe better yet for more torque in the lower to mid rpm range research using 862's or 706 castings. There are probably more than a few on here with that 6.0l with 862 combo. No milling required

I'd go 243s and the tbss/nbss all day long in a truck. Check your local pickapart, you can find the intakes there pretty commonly for under $75. Heads too if your halfway tool handy. Take a full metric set from 8mm-15mm deep sockets with several extensions and a ratcheting wrench set of the same. I also recommend taking a cordless drill with 3/8 socket attachment AND a swivel trust me on this. Makes life easier

Any head combo you choose, I'd research a combo that will produce the best torque numbers in the operating range you will be running this 3/4 ton Suburban. High hp numbers do not make for a great daily driver...BUT huge torque #'s do!

most of the torque number increases are from the variable valve timing which the OP will Not benefit from. Here is an article HotRod did on the subject. It took the big headed engine spinning above 5000 RPM to best the smaller cathedral port heads in torque numbers.http://www.hotrod.com/articles/ccrp-...ylinder-heads/

Yup, still on the stock converter for now so I can still do some towing. And I already put in the 4.56 gears with a TrueTrac. Above 75 is a bit loud but it's just fine otherwise.
