What is the benefit and at what power level are they really needed?

I understand the importance of rod bolts and head studs in a boosted application. I'm just not sure what is gained with arp main studs. More clamping force to reduce the potential to spin a main bearing? I don't really hear of that happening much at all with these motors.

More clamp load will basically help keep the caps on tight and prevent them from walking and the main bores from deforming. Stock main bolts have held over 1000hp on several ccasions so I don’t think they’re really needed in most applications.

Im only looking to make around 700 rwhp through an auto with my D1x. I think a forged rods/pistons 6.0 spinning to 6500 rpm should be plenty without main studs or upgraded wrist pins.

Yeah I think you’d be fine. If you don’t upgrade the wrist pins, you may want to ask your machinist to check the pin clearance. At that power the standard pins may flex a little more so a little more clearance would be good. A lot of forged rods and pistons come in at about .009ish so I like to open them up to about .0012”.

Im still early in the process just researching and planning for what I'm going to do next winter. I may even buy a short block just don't know yet.

Hi 8R, MY REASON to fit ARP Main Studs is ONLY when I KNOW the engine will be rebuilt often AND then most often I also fit Steel Main CAPS.

Mostly due to costs involved, the Align Hone, stud kit = $500.00 with the Steel mains another $500.00.

YOUR question of power has seen the Powdered Mains CRACK (rear) over 1000 WHP.

I would ADD the MAX Torque of 80.lbs NOT 100 as in some ARP Tech notes !
