On the cam, best thing I can tell you is the 427 seems to really like a 52 degree IVC. With that it will carry to 8k. If you shift anywhere near that, power or torque below 5200 rpm won't matter. Much earlier than 52 it falls early. Much later and it gets lazy.
So I would say look at your valve events and get that IVC to 52 degeees. If it is already then just leave it. You can tolerate up to about 12.3 compression and still be ok with that IVC. It will want a bit less timing with the compression.
Mine are flat deck vs above deck also. But domed and relieved.

Beautiful car man. I was gonna come check it out but after my oil pressure issues I forgot to. When we left that pass, I had came up on the 2step harder and car was leaving strong. My tilt steering come down on my lap,I let out to check what had happened. Seen it was ok and got back on it. I short shifted that pass after but mph still was lower than it should have been.

so this is what it should be at 108cl. It fell in at 109.5cl. What does the 109.5cl put it at and would advancing it 2deg be better? Im ok with 7500 shifts and a touch more midrange hitting the converter is a good thing

thanks bud. All the issues I had with it, I had a feeling something was gonna go bad. This time will be me assembling it with the help of my normal engine builder and a lot of care will be taken to make sure everything is right. Not saying it wasn't last time, just gonna be very careful this round for sure. Even considering engine dyno if I can afford it. Need that data to get the converter built right this time

I have a 4" hose that replaced the flex hose when I pulled off the maf. Still an slp lid though and kpa held 99-100 on dyno and track. Might find a little more with a big cone. Worth a try
The is a few things I might do differently when it goes back together. Right now im at 11.8-1compression, zero deck pistons and .041 gaskets. If I go .036 it will be a 11.95-1 but the tighter quench should help a little. Now, my cam was supposed to be ground 112lsa plus 4
it degreed in at a 109.5 cl. Straight dot to dot. Would it change the tq down low much to make that change to 107.5cl by moving the gear degree advanced? Or just leave as is?

Oh. If you were running a full exhaust. I picked up 5mph(in the 1/8th) from 1 cut out off a good y pipe. Full exhaust will kill ya at the track.

It's funny we ended up with almost the same cam from cam motion. My cam for my new 427 is still in the box because I ordered a set of Dart pro1 ls3's THREE months ago and I'm still being told from Dart that I'll be getting them at the end of the month. We might have our cars running at the same time! I'm going with a .038 gasket as well because I had no issues at all running one on my 418 cid engine. That one had to come apart right after putting it went together too because I run a 4.1 crank and the extra .050 on the bottom bolts shaved about .020 of aluminum right off the pan into the oil leaving funny marks on the edges of all my bearings. Turned out to be no big deal. Just a crank polish and new crank bearings.

there is a good chance I'll find these valve cover spacers to be the culprit. I think a rocker has been scraping them and if so could have gotten shavings in oil. That's my suspicion anyway.

I have dual all the way back. More than likely go 3"x in place of the 2.5" x and a single cutout just behind x .

Yep. Specked Cam Motion cam with Jesel sportsman rockers to 7500 rpm for application, drag racing with limited street usage, 3650 race weight. 3800 stall, 28 x11.50 Hoosier dot radials. All N/A cam but I will put a bottle on it here and there when the tranny fluid is cold (mid winter).
My last times out with the 418 were high 6's @ 99mph. Shifting @ 7000. Timing was low at 21 degrees. Sixty ft picked up from low 1.6's to 1.51 with heavy ebay subframe connectors. I thought the weight would slow it down but they felt great on the launch. So good I started red lighting and had to wait to launch more towards the green light coming on and away from the last yellow being on.
The old cam was a Hyd 235/250 .600 lift. Cant wait to get a Solid cam engine running again. My last was a 496 CID BB, 69 SS Chevelle.

Update on what's been going on.
so crank bent from heat on number 4main journal. Had to cut it .010 to get it back straight. Block was completely machined and race prepped by a local shop that I wanted to do the work originally. He was to busy back then so I got a short block on line.
deck surface was a course cut like we use fo use for composite gaskets,now smooth for cometic gaskets. Knocked .006 off and pistons now will be above deck .003 then decked my heads .006 to get 63 cc chambers for 12.08 compression vs 11.72 previously.
honed the block also due to rings being worn 75% due to a corset finish hone.
line honed also and found end caps .001 tight #2 and thrust bearing good and #4 .002 tight.
checked balance and that was good on assembly.
waiting on rings and all bearings to come in from the shop I purchased short block from. He was willing to fix the motor but I didn't want to drive 6hours each way to get it back to him. So im ok with him supplying parts. Just want it done
short block will be together in a week or so when I get off the boat again and I will put heads and cam etc. On it then.
this gets assembled completely then on the engine dyno before going back in the car. We want to play with valve lash to see where cam works best . I ordered some bad a$$ Winchester fabrication valve covers that should also be In by then instead of spacers.
I ordered a summit racing 7qt oil pan and remote mount earls filter kit. To make sure it fits chassis I ordered a bmr kmember.
will get the a arms later when I'm ready to do coil overs . I will be running pump gas but also a meth injection kit with 50/50 boost juice. Shouldn't need it but the cooling effect and cleaning of the pistons and valves is a plus. To activate it, I ordered a zex tps activate switch.
after engine dyno,I will send the ptc converter back in to get adjusted. Shifts fell 1700 1-2 & 1500 2-3 shifts.
stalled 4800 on trans brake so depending on dyno results that will get adjusted to work best as well.
car is heavy so I'll also be looking at ways to get some weight off without giving up comforts.

make sure it still has a radius from the journal to the crank. They cut mine square. I called and said something about it. They told me it was fine. Less than 500 miles later, ejecto cranko out the canton oil pan. Took out the heads, block, Oil pan. I called, they said sorry, nature of the hobby. Had to start over.
