243 ported and polished heads recommendations?
Have almost all bolt ons available for my car right now. At this point it looks like ported 243's or aftermarket heads will be the next best bang for your buck mod that I can do for the car. I'm currently around 397WHP give or take, major mods are in sig. Strongly considering removing the heads and having them professionally ported this winter when I put the car up. Currently has unported 243 heads on it. Only thing I'm a little concerned about is possibly losing low end torque. Is there a certain port job I should be asking for with my setup? Hoping to gain 20-40WHP with new and improved heads.
Only other mods I've considered lately is an underdrive pulley and a Fast 90/90 intake. Thoughts on ported heads and who I should go with?

I make 450 rear wheel horsepower with a set of Lloyd Elliot ported 243's. I have a largish nitrous cam and a Fast 102. That was through a Powerglide and a 9". I had the heads flowed locally before and after the port job for my info and to share after. The thread is around here somewhere.

Any other ideas on additional mods I can do from here and to keep it NA? Fast 92/92? Underdrive pulley? Electric water pump? I'm still running stock fuel injectors, 28lbs I think they are.

BTR Stage 3. I'd like to not spend an arm and a leg, it's never going to be a track car, just a quick street car with maybe 2-3 pulls at the track in the next year.

See how much Frankenstein charges, they do some really good work. There's a ton of good port programs these days but I would look for one that does port work, bowl blend and valve job. The bowl blend and valve job are as important or more important that the port work itself and some of the lower cost CNC port programs only do the port job and no blending or valve job.
Frankenstein, Texas speed, AI, TEA, Katech... are a few of the places I can think of off the top of my head that do excellent work.
If you want to go aftermarket and make out of the box power that ported heads will make or very close.. and have a little room to grow, go with TFS as cast 220, those heads make tons of power for the money. They are roughly 1700.
A lot of guys will say go FAST 102, but the 92 is plenty and will put down big numbers too. Last build I did for someone was a stock LS1 long block, mild cam, FAST 92 and TFS as cast 220 and the car ran 6.8's off the trailer.
The electric water pump and under drive are good ideas, also look at a crank scraper from improved racing, those free up a good amount of power for the cost.

I've heard the bowl blend and GOOD valve job are 80% of a good performing head.

If you don't already have 243 cores or can source a pair around $250, strongly consider aftermarket castings. End cost after shipping, etc. you will end up with close to the same investment with a lot better end product. The Lloyd Elliot suggestion was only a for the dollar cheap suggestion. The sky is the limit and your heads are how you make power everywhere. Most other components simply decide which RPM it's made at.

Texas Speed has the cheapest cnc deal going on starting at 650 bucks or so. Otherwise I would put too much money into a pair of 243 heads.... the tfs 220 as cast is a steal for 1700 bucks and they PERFORM.

I made 451whp with stock 243s.....bolt on 02 ls6. Now your auto probably sucks up a little power to my m6 but there are other things you need to do before porting the heads. A good intake would be a better place to start. Also look at the whole lid/maf induction system.

Depending on the condition of them (if they need disassembled/cleaned/etc), supplied heads start at $849.99 for the pair CNC'd and assembled with your valves, our dual spring kit and upgraded seals.

I don't remember the thread but a guy posted up that they gained 25 hp from just doing a bowl blend and valve job, imagine getting a port job done and them leaving that off. I'm not sure who all does it but one sponsor is having a CNC special for around $500 and they are not touching the bowls or valves for that money.
Anyone know if bowl work or valve jobs are normally included in a port program or if it's in addition? I just assumed it was part of the "port job" but after seeing that the other day now I wonder how many companies just port the ports only for their advertised price.

I know TSP does LS3 heads and is reputed to get GOOD gains from a port volume that is barely larger than stock. My suspicion is they do a kickass valve job and bowl blend, then touch up the ports to get rid of any hiccups. Just my guess.
I do know a valve job is included in their head jobs.
