Default 408 Cam help. 68 C10 w/ T56!

Been long time since I have played w/ LS motors. Been out of the loop for many years.
The last one I had was a 98 Camaro T56 driver and road course toy. Stock cubes and typical bolt on's for 2003-2004 time frame. Ran the G5X2 cam (232/240 600'ish lift on a 112 LSA).
Loved the cam and the power (456hp/422tq @ the wheels). I sold the car and moved my focus to road racing a 95 LT1 Camaro for 10 years.

My new project is a 68 C10 that will be getting an LQ4/9 based 408. It will have Trick Flow 225's (65CC) w/ a target of 11.5 comp ratio, 1-7/8 headers, 4.10 gears. The induction will be a Fi Tech LS 750HP kit. Sheetmetal intake and 102mm TB.
Usage will be 100% fun street use and weekend track (road course) toy when time allows. I want big power and a nasty choppy idle.

I have been agonizing over the cam selection. I talked w/ TSP and asked about the 244/248 stroker cam w/ 612/615 lift on a 112 LSA. They came back an recommended the 233/239 cam on a 113. Seems small for a 408 when you compare it to the G5X2 listed above I ran in my 346ci LS1.

What has changed over the years that I may be missing that would make them come back w/ the 233/239 recommendation?

Open to suggestions for cams, but limit it to personal use w/ a manual trans. RWHP/TQ number help too.

Big HP/TQ is a want, but not concerned w/ MAX HP/TQ. Fuel mileage is not a concern. Drivability @ 80 mph in 6th gear is (2000-2500 RPM's). Tire size is planned to be a 335/30/18.

Anyone out there wanna give me some advice?

Not anything special.
70's patina w/ a Mobile 1 repair shop logo's and adverts on it. Gonna leave the body as is, but all business under the skin.
Boyds Tank, No Limit front suspension, rack and pinion, 13" Wilwoods...... All the cool stuff.

Get Brian Tooley to spec you a cam on a cam motion core. He knows TFS heads mighty well to say the least.

I think TSP did what they did to give you what you want, PLUS give you more power under the curve, giving you a well rounded engine that will still kick *** on the top end

I have used the tick torque max stg3 cam in a built 6.0 with AI ported 243s. Setup sounded great and ran really well! This was used in a silverado auto 80e setup with nitrous. Matter of fact i just ordered it again for a tbss build.

With any truck i would recommend something for torque. I think the 230s cam tsp recommended is a lil on the small side for a built stroker. The stroker makes alot of torque on its own.

Might be best to get a custom cam speced. Doesnt cost much more than a new off the shelf cam. Someone like BTR gets my vote as well! He knows his stuff!

"For a truck....."
Remember guys, while it is a truck..... it will not be used as one. I expect the same cam recomendations as one for a fbody or Corvette.
The only thing this truck will haul is ***.

Also have to remember a 68 C10 will not weigh that much more than a F body or a Chevelle vs a HD pickup with four doors.

Yep.
My bet is 3500lbs road ready.
No a/c or heat, no front inner fenders, rear mount aluminum fuel tank, no bed floor.

Post some pics dude! Would love to see the truck. I also have a 68 SWB, but I’m running a full bolt on LS3 through a Jake’s 4l80E. I hit up Pat G and got a custom speced cam. Went through TSP for the grind using an 8620core. That things gonna haul some ***!

I have a Tony Mamo spec'd 241/246 113+1 in my 408 with his 235 heads and all the goodies! Its in my 92 s10, prob weighs in at approx 3k lbs. I'm dialing in the tune now and will get it on the dyno soon. Driveability is not bad at all and boy does it haul ***! Its pushing a 6 speed to 3.90 gears.
