I have an LQ4 with 243 heads the cam below with a set of PAC 1218 valve springs.. It lopes nicely at idle and plenty of TQ. It's in my big 2500 truck. Good enough to drive daily and sounds nice with longtubes. I'd recommend something similar.

222/224 566"/568" 112 LSA in my LQ4 with 243 heads. (Comp 54-426-11)

You don't have to change cam sensors, timing gear, and cover with something like this... Bolt in and go..

Best possible gas mileage and reliable....

-Stick with the heads you had or go with other cathedral heads. Not sure what you mean by 253 heads, you'll have to clarify that.
-The LS3 cam is not a good choice either, it'll be less efficient at lower rpm and make power way up top. If you want a fun efficient driver that's heavy, use a truck cam or a drop in truck cam. Companies make drop in truck cams that keep low end and fuel economy up pretty well and you can use your stock springs pushrods and timing chain too.
-Don't go carb if you want the best fuel mileage and reliability, unless you are really good with carbs, even then, the best can't match EFI for reliability, some may be able to match fuel mileage if the carb is dialed in real good. But then that dialing in is lost every time the weather changes.

My best advice, gather more info here before purchasing anything else.

If you got 243 heads, that's a good move. But you said 253 so clarify that and we can continue to steer you the right direction.

Lastly, just because 63 people looked at your post doesn't mean anything. Sometimes a couple hundred views happen before the person that can actually help you comes along. Not everyone here knows everything, there's a lot of people that just click and read and lurk so they can learn. But there are several people that know a ton and are willing to help, as long as the person they are helping isn't an askhole.

I agree with 243's. Especially ported and polished. Even milled to gain compression. Every bit of compression adds up, especially on an LQ4.
