Default in a dilema. the cathedral vs rec heads

Previously had prc ls3 heads on my 408 and not sure whether to restick to ls3 headed side or switch to the cathedral side.. The motor was previously in my silverado but now its going into my firebird trans am. Im over here arguing with a buddy of mine that ls3 make more power but he says the cathedrals will be more torquey and thats what wins races. anyways from y'all experiences what type of heads will make this motor breathe and make more torque or power overall.. AS far as intake I'm pretty set on running a vic jr with 4150 tb unless y'all can steer me away from that set up.

Aftermarket cathedral is better than a stock casting ls3

Stock casting ls3 is better than a stock casting cathedral

Aftermarket ls3 is most of the time better than an aftermarket cathedral

I lile cathedral heads personally .. I have cathedrals on my 416 and make a touch over 570 rwhp on motor.

but I really really want to build a stock casting ls3 headed motor to see how far I can push stock castings .. ugh

4150 on a vic jr is going to drive like **** . And not make power until 6000 rpm. Better plan on spinning 7500+
I like fast 102's. For fbodys. Highrams for trucks

OP, which cathedral heads will make more overall power than PRC LS3 heads?
What's the cost and is it worth it?
You would have to go very top of the line cathedrals, but why when you could go top of the line LS3?

Cant they make a new head called catherectangular or something? The best of both worlds!

OP this is always going to be a debate. Mavns post was good. Figure what you really want & go from there. Good luck.

In line with this site's penchant for sticking "Related Threads" on the tails of newer threads, this one ought to have about a dozen of them tagging on...

More torque wins races sure as long as it happens higher in the RPM range so it turns into HP. If you already have PRC ls3 there’s no point in going backwards

So I guess what you're trying to say is if you put rectangles on you'll be the fastest?

Rectangular shift the powerband to the right which is good for max effort cars. Cathedral shift the powerband to the left which is good for street cars. A street/strip car can use either and which ever you choose will be wrong if you post about it on here.

Torque does win races if you have a heavy car on an 1/8 mile track. A light car on a 1/4 mile wants more top end. A mid-weight car that runs both can use either and which ever you choose will be wrong if you post about it on here.
