Hopefully that solves your problem. It would suck to go through all of that and still have the same issue. I was thinking the teeth of the flywheel where coming into contact with the starter.

Sounds external to me, did you try pulling all the spark plug out then turn the crank by hand to see if you can locate the noise?

I looked at flywheel and starter closely when I removed it from the motor no marks at all. I got the newish motor is today but install took a little longer than I thought with the yard snapping 7 manifold bolts off flush with the head so that was fun welding nuts to remove the bolts. I was installing the manifold and got a little agressive and ripped the threads out of the head. That was my stopping point dropped the tools and walked away. Tomorrow we will know

Well I feel super dumb. New motor same results went a little deeper with the carb spray and noticed a leak on the back of the carb. I piece of metal was under the carb to manifold gasket cause a nasty vac leak and making all those noises. So 900 dollars later and 10 hours of work the motor runs fine. Thanks everyone for the help and suggestions.

Yes you called it spare motor is cool but I using that money towards brakes and suspension would have been cooler

Oh man that sucks big time, but one good thing is you'll never forget this lesson. It's that way sometimes. Happens to all of us.

Sell one of them motors and get your brakes and suspension

I don't know about you but I literally cannot stop it. The crazy and stupid things people say to me all day every day makes it impossible.

Very cool man, appreciate the offer. I stay around the house most days due to some legal issues but I'll keep it in mind man for sure. Happy new year to you as well, and the rest of you ***** reading this.
