Do I need to rebalance to swap out 1 rod
Hey guys I have a 5.3 in a truck that hydro locked and seized the engine. It does appear that the rod is broken, just bent and binding.
The piston is fine and I have another rod out of an ls1. Would I nee to rebalance the whole assembly or could I just swap that rod out and reuse the original piston?

The technical answer is probably rebalance but if the replacement rod is same GM Gen III stock rod & rod bolts that came out I think you can probably not balance and be OK. Worse case weigh the replacement rod and see that it's the typical 616-618 grams for a stock LS1 rod.
I'd be worried about the piston. Did piston get checked with magnaflux for cracks? Might also magnaflux the cylinder head chamber to check for cracks too. I'm paranoid and want everything checked when **** happens before an engine goes back together.
Honestly, a stock hypereutectic piston and piston pin that's took a hit hard enough to bend a rod, I'm tossing in the scrap bend. Stock replacement piston or another stock piston should be pretty inexpensive.

It takes special tools to determine if a part is good or bad but if its a chance your willing to take with your time and parts then run it.
