Default 5.3 dropped a valve *Re-Build Time*

So my engine dropped a valve the other day. This engine has been a good one for me in my FFR Daytona Coupe. I have always wanted a little more power out of it though, so now is a good opportunity to do some upgrades.

This is the plan so far, but subject to change.

Bore the block to 3.898"
New Malhe Forged pistons 4cc valve reliefs
Replace the 3 damaged scat rods
Texas Speed 227cc CNC heads
Texas speed magic stick 3 cam
Full roller rockers

I'll put updates here over the next few months as I make progress on it. I've ordered the pistons and rods. Next will be to get the block and rotating assembly to my machine shop for all the mill work.

As cheeeeep as you can pick up a 5.3 at the boneyard, I wouldn't futz with "rebuilding" that one.

Start over with a non-destroyed short block, and apply your proposed upgrades to that.

I have shifted my plan a bit. I just ordered a new 6.0L block and pistons. Picking them up in a couple of days. Going with LS3 heads and a mild cam. Shooting for around 500HP. That will be a nice bump in power from where I am now with tons more torque.

Mild cam 6.0 vs a 5.7 with a donkey dick cam should be a lot more fun in a road race car

You could bore the 6.0 to 4.065 and do some drop in LS3 pistons also...

If you don't wanna go that big ws6store sells some nice 4.040's

Yea, you really nailed it. It looks like the valve went sideways and started to knock out the spark plug.
Anyway, the above advice is good. I wouldn't spend alot on a 5.3. Do the bigger motor.

Got the block and the pistons. Still waiting on my replacement Scat rods so I can get it balanced.

There are some sharps edges left over from the machining process on the block. It did come with cam bearings though.
