rocker arm replacement
 
Hi,i changed my rocker arms because i found a needle bearing in my oil.So i replaced them and adjusted as per gm specs and torqued them down in sequence and also rotated crank 360* to do them all at 22lbs.unfortunately when i started it up,i had alot of clatter.before i adjusted them i finger tightened them and then torqued in sequence.Any idea what i might have done wrong and what is the proper procedure.Yes i did put #1 cylinder at tdc.thanks

Is the engine stock? Are the rockers Stock?
there is no adjustment

new stock rockers with caged trunion bearings.stock motor.when i started it up after storage and even when i put it in storage,there wasn't any valvetrain noise even though i had a broken rocker.now after changing the rockers and doing another oil change i have alot of rocker noise.they may not be adjustable but they still have to be torqued or tightened down someway as i did it the way gm says

just gonna have to yank the valve covers off and see whats loose, you cant really mess it up so may be a part failure if your 100% sure all rockers were tightened
Ive always ran them all down "to proper GM torque specs lol" and then spun the engine 1 turn and checked for "proper torque" again

so i removed 1 side last night and they're all tight but i think some should be loose.when u did yours did you find tdc on 1 and then tighten some exhaust and some intake than spin 360* and tighten the rest or did u just torque them all at 1nce

Are you sure the new rockers you bought are GM? Lots of re-pops floating around on Fleabay that aren’t GM, and could be dimensionally different.

I dont mess with finding TDC #1 I just tighten them all down untill they bottom out and "Torque" them then rotate the engine about 360 degrees and make sure there all "torqued" down
ive done that....... seriously probably 50 times and never had any issue except one time I got in a hurry and left 1 rocker loose.... but that was my fualt

Dont mistake the lifter compressing as them being tight, make sure there all the way down

And as stated are you using GM parts?

i bought these rockers from michigan motorsports and they're supposed to b direct replacements.
what exactly do you mean by bottom out and did you torque to 22lbs.thanks for the info.

If you torqued them to 22ft lbs and rotated engine and torqued again to 22ft lbs they shoudl all be tight, just take the other side loose and see if you can see anything

Direct replacement does NOT mean genuine GM parts.
It just means they will bolt in place of the original parts.
Watch for those made of Thaitanium or Chinesium….

1 side is off but i didnt find any loose 1s but my son is coming over and he'll turn the engine over and we'll see whats loose,or should i loosen them all and retighten them or just tighten them to 22lbs as they are now..

I would spin it over and find the loose one so you can see whats going on with that rocker, may even swap it out with another one to see if the problem follows the rocker or if its something else.

Just let it idle for five minutes, sounds to me that a lifter got bled out when you were rotating the motor and needs to pump back up. When I did my clutch it clattered for several minutes because I had to rotate the motor to tighten the clutch/flywheel.

I’ve never had that happen...... maybe a few seconds but not minutes
if that was the case then anytime you shut then engine off and a valve was in the open position (witch is always the case) then that lifter/s would bleed down and clatter ever single startup for several minutes
